JBL 4309 vs Ascend 2EX V2

Let's see:

1) Technical advantages that I think are underappreciated, such as the lack of SBIR and baffle step.

2) Aesthetics, as the only thing better than a pretty box is no box at all, IMO. Also frees up floor space.

3) Bang for buck, as I'm not paying for a pretty box when there's pretty good boxes already in place in the form of my wall cavities.

4) Honestly, just kind of want to try them out as kind of a technical exercise. See how it sounds and measures when all is said and done.
Seems like superior solution if you can build them into the wall.

In some ways yes. There's downsides too of course. Not much placement flexibility, wall cavities aren't exactly designed to be a speaker enclosure, upgrades require drywall repair or just going bigger, studs restrict horizontal space available, among others.

Also it's more difficult to find ones that measure well. One, because there are simply fewer that have been properly measured as they aren't as popular amongst the hifi crowd, and they require special techniques and equipment. Two, many of them simply aren't built with sound quality foremost in mind. Instead, they're designed for aesthetics and for custom installers' profit margins.

I'm 100% convinced genelec has the best speakers, including for in-wall.

I don't think i can fit them into my walls though. I'm going with 8361a free-standing. When i grow up i'll build a sound room with speakers in-wall.

We've kind of hijacked the OP's thread here a bit. But yeah, Genelecs make excellent speakers no doubt. A bit pricey for me though. And they don't have in-walls exactly, but some are designed to be mounted flush with a wall or soffit. Given that they're active speakers, though, you have to make sure the cavity has some amount of ventilation.

$10K for the best speaker ever made which includes DAC, amps, and room eq is a fucking steal.
