The 305p MKII has two input sensitivity settings: -10dBV and +4dBu
At -10dBV you can input a maximum of 2.0Vrms (6dBV) before the input clips.
At +4dBu you can input a maximum of 8.0Vrms (20.3dBu) before the input clips.

To sum it up in a digestible fashion:
The - 10 dBV is for consumer type components. A regular preamp, DAC, etc ... These are usually single ended, i-e they have usually RCA outputs, but you find more and ore output with 3.5 mm jack... these are most often stereo. So -10 dBV is for those, output at max, 2 Volts.
The +4dBu is for "professional" items, these usually have an XLR or TSR as connectors. They typically output more voltage than consumer products... Sometimes up >10 Volts. These are also balanced. The 305 inputs are balanced but you can use Single Ended (RCA) through the use of converters.
If you are going to use these with consumer type equipment, say a consumer preamp or DAC or AVR with pre-out then you need to :
Switch to -10 dbV:
Use a RCA to XLR converters/cables such as these:
or id you are going to use a Professional Preamp/Mixer/DAC or Balanced ones...
