Thanks, but why then did you say "Then a DX7s before is overkill"

I would think you'd then want a decent DAC feeding the internal ADC? Without going overboard of course.

A couple of the Toppings measure nicely and they're not too expensive?

How would one connect the JBL to a PC the easiest way?

To me splitter like this seems to be the best choice. You can then use 2 standard 6.35mm guitar cables to run from that splitter to the speakers.

Because the DAC inside will not be as good. An average DAC will give the same sound. Even the inboard DAC of a laptop would be enough I guess.

As easy as my suggestion!

It is important to set the input sensitivity switch to -10dBu for RCA line level signal!

Q: My BMW M3 goes only 50mph and makes a funny intermittent burbling sound. What's wrong with it?
A: Change to 2nd gear

Btw, I haven't seen M3 that can go over 40mph in 1st gear. :p

I used to have a pair. The hiss is bad when close up.
I've heard this complaint about other powered speakers. I have a set of Presonus Eris for PC speakers. Some customer reviews at Amazon talk about hiss. I don't hear it on mine. My guess is that at this low price point these are all stamped out in a factory, somewhere in Shenzhen, and QC is variable. I don't know about powered JBL speakers from first hand experience. I'd think they would be a cut above something like Presonus in the quality department.

By the way, how loud will be the sound with window set at 100, and the 305p set at min gain?
Is a preamp needed?

I don't know about the 305, but my 308's get plenty loud through windows with the focusrite.... But................ They get even louder hooked up to my Integra DHC-80.2 and sound great.

I have tried hooking mine up the following ways: PC>>BEHRINGER UMC204HD>>308P'S (RAN THE RCA OUTS INITIALLY AND THEN BALANCED. HUGE DIFFERENCE WITH BALANCED!!) Then I tried: PC>>TOPPING D10>>308P'S (RCA OUT OBVIOUSLY.... TOO MUCH NOISE BECAUSE OF RUNNING UNBALANCED) Then I tried: PC>>FOCUSRITE SCARLETT 2i4>>308P'S (RAN BALANCED AND SOUNDS ABOUT THE SAME AS THE UMC204HD EXCEPT A LITTLE LOUDER PERHAPS) Then I tried: PC>>INTEGRA DHC-80.2>>308P'S (Ran HDMI out from GTX 1080 TI to the Integra, and XLR out to the XLR in on the 308p's. This sounds good and gets much louder than any other combo)

Just received my pair of 305p mkII.
I need to buy long XLR cables and make some space to set them but I already listened to a few songs with only one of the two plugged.
Sounded good, a bit bright.
There is a hiss audible, even with the audio cable unplugged, from 1 meter away, especially if volume is set to 10n a bit less at 5 or 6. Not as bad as expected.

LOL My point was that 50mph is too high for 1st gear. :D
