Greetings One And All !

For two days only, Jul. 15 & 16, these JBL lovelies are ~40% off !!

One of their reps sent me a note to that effect, don't know if he's solely responsible for the deal, but you do have to call him specifically to take advantage.

Nick Dutiel @ sweetwater.com : (800) 222-4700 ext 3068.

I'd think that's as good as it gets :-)

Best Regards.

Thanks. I would get a pair if I hadn't read so many comment about hiss when used as close desktop monitors.

The hiss thing really confuses me; I'm sitting in front of a pair of these right now (305 MkII, via a 310 sub and a DX7s, balanced all the way through), and the only way I can hear anything (with -0dB across the source chain, all three speakers at about 50% on the volume knobs)) is if I put my ears right up to the tweeters. And while I'm sure my hearing is starting to go, I'm not quite that old yet. ;)

I wonder if this is a case of certain batches being good/bad?

With 306 Mk 2 I do hear some hiss when listening right at the speaker. At half-meter it's very hard to notice. I'm sitting a couple of meters away from them, so no hiss whatsoever.

Mac mini > Roon > DX7s > XLR > 305 MK2

No hiss unless my ear is right next to the tweeter. Certainly nothing heard during soft passages in a near field setup.

Hard to beat these at under $200/pair. That's my problem, no idea what I'd upgrade to that matches this price to value.

My bad, I didn't read the thread title properly. I had the Mk I, so can't comment on the Mk II.

Isn't there an ADC in the 305 before the amp?

Additional question:

How different is the 305p mkII from the original LSR305?

218€ the pair incl. shipping at Thomann right now.

I might be misunderstanding what an ADC does, but I thought it converts analog to digital. Since my source is digital, I guess I'm going from digital to analog through the DAC and then back from analog to digital though the ADC?

Yes I think you have it.

You'll do DAC-ADC-DAC.

How would one connect the JBL to a PC the easiest way?

That would work only if the speakers were a few inches apart.
I think one needs two mono cables at some point.

it is quite easy to strip the L and R cables apart. Cables come in variable lengths. This is the easiest way!

It gets much more complicated and expensive to buy extension cables!

p.s. I can't hear hiss from my LSR305 mkI speakers!
