I'm working my way through jazz saxophonists on Tidal. Today I'm listening to Don Byas, who turns out to be one of the best musicians I never heard of. Try "Riviera Blues: The Complete Recordings."

Yesssss, absolutely, an other fan of them here.
Can't wait to have some time to spent in London and go to their concert.
I'm lucky Rouen isn't so far.

Damion Reid is crazy on drums.
Saw Glasper twice in concert in Paris, a bit disapointed, time-calibrated session (as Christian Scoot playing 2x45 minutes)
Still a great musician though.

UK-based, Brownswood Recordings :

Ibrahim Maalouf.....Beirut...when I saw him at the Sage Gateshead a couple of years ago he ended the concert with this...stunning!

When there was the terrorist attacks in Paris in 2015, there also was attacks in Beirut the next day.
As a Franco-Lebanese he spoke about Beirut attacks in the medias.
He was the only one doing that, everybody was talking about Paris, and Egypt a bit, Beirut was forgotten.

He is a great human as a great musician.

He made some fun stuff with Oxmo Puccino, a Franco-Malian rapper who uses the French language beautifully :

He wrote "Kalthoum", a tribute to women :

Thanks, going to listen to this.

Back in the days, when Robert Glasper covered Radiohead, with the very talented Jamire Williams on drums :

We don't see Jamire anymore, that's a shame.

Radiohead is often covered by Jazz artists, that's interesting :

Thanks for the link to the Glasper performance of Maiden Voyage, one of my favorite compositions. Love the version from the '70s by Brian Auger & the Oblivion Express, whose music unfortunately generally has not survived to the point of Qobuz/Tidal/Apple Music availability. :(
