TheJazzWord: "Drummer Jae Sinnett's outstanding contribution to the jazz genre is...19 albums as a bandleader and several as a sideman. With a broadcasting career spanning 37 years, Sinnett has also made significant contributions to the promotion of jazz, hosting the popular shows 'Sinnett in Session' and 'The R&B Chronicles' on NPR affiliate WHRV-FM 89.5, in Hampton Roads, VA, USA. Sinnett has shared the stage with Branford and Ellis Marsalis, Joe Henderson, Freddie Hubbard, and many others.

His latest album, Commitment, features 10 tracks, 3 by Sinnet, 2 by pianist Allen Farnham, and 5 standards. Randy Brecker guests on trumpet and flugelhorn, while Steve Wilson on alto and soprano saxophones, and Terry Burrell on acoustic and electric bass complete the 'Zero To 60 Quartet'.

Each track resonates with its own distinct identity, showcasing the collective virtuosity and versatility of the ensemble while underpinning Sinnett’s creative genius as a drummer, composer, arranger, and bandleader. Commitment encapsulates the essence of modern jazz while revering its traditional roots, showcasing Sinnett’s profound understanding and reverence for the genre."

The video is a live in the studio album tune. Please enjoy a really nice album by someone with real Commitment to the jazz cause.

From LatinJazzNet: "On his sixth album as leader, Futuro, Emilio Teubal, an extraordinary young composer and pianist has shown that he is made of all the right stuff...
His cast of musicians includes bassist Pablo Lanouguere, drummer Chris Michael, percussionist Brian Shankar Adler, guitarist Fedo Díaz, clarinetist Sam Sadigursky and vibeist Chris Dingman, who all enhance the balance of warmth and clarity of the music to superb effect... If you find yourself bedazzled it’s because Mr Teubal’s music has that kind of magnificent effect on your sensibilities."

The video is the trio with a live in the studio album tune. Please enjoy another really nice modern/Latin/piano jazz album, by another young, but veteran, jazz artist.

Today’s 2fer 2sday features 2 albums from 2 saxophonists who are 2 decade-plus alumni of the Johnny Carson/Doc Severinsen/Tommy Newsom/NBC Tonight Show Band, of USA late-night TV fame. If you haven’t heard of these guys, there’s still a good chance you’ve heard these guys.

Ernie Watts is a multi-saxophonist with ~24 album releases and 100s of session credits. He: was Marvin Gaye’s featured soloist in the 1970s, with 2 Grammy winners; played on Slow Dancer, Countdown To Ecstasy, 'Roots', 'Grease' and 'The Color Purple'; is heard in the TV show ‘Night Court’ theme; and toured in an oldies act called The Rolling Stones.

He started Dolphin Records in 2000, and has released ~10 albums, with an established quartet. A nice example is Oasis, from 2011. AllAboutJazz:With Oasis Watts confirms—as if confirmation were needed—that he is one of the greatest living tenor saxophonists at the top of his game. A joy from start to finish.”

The video is Ernie blowin’ some hot ‘Bebop’ from 2014.

Pete Christlieb was touted in a previous Twofer Tuesday upthread here, where it was mentioned he often played in big bands. A recent example is The Gary Urwin Jazz Orchestra’s 2014 album A Beautiful Friendship, with Bill Watrous on trombone and Carl Saunders on trumpet. AllAboutJazz:While heaping praise on the soloists, one should not lose sight of the fact that this is a world-class ensemble with superb craftsmen in every chair. Together they make A Beautiful Friendship one of the more impressive big-band albums in recent memory.”

Please enjoy 2 albums from 2 of my favorite jazz artists on this 2fer 2sday.

AllAboutJazz: “....Tenor saxophonist and composer Felipe Salles… had extensive conversations with each of the guest musicians…. before composing the pieces on which each would be featured. The result is a polychromatic, adventurous album that allows Salles' multidimensionality as a composer to flourish. And with top-shelf guests such as saxophonists Melissa Aldana and Paquito D'Rivera, and trumpeter Nadje Noordhuis in the lineup, the results are as fulfilling as one would expect.”

This is Felipe’s ~10th album since 2004. His 2022 release Tiyo’s Songs Of Life, was recommended upthread here.

The entire album is performed live in the studio, YouTube video playlist, with some songs still to be added to complete the full album. Here's the tune with Paquito D'Rivera. It's a bit long, but hey, can you ever have too much Paquito? Please enjoy s'more nice, new, jazz.

Boston's 10-piece 'Either/Orchestra' was an “engagingly idiosyncratic” little big band, with ~11 albums from 1985-2010… Allmusic: “The guiding force was always composer and tenor/soprano saxophonist Russ Gershon. The ensemble successfully balanced serious musicianship and respect for the jazz tradition with a quirky and sometimes off-the-wall sense of humor.”

Their last album was 2010s Mood Music For Time Travelers. Allmusic: “Celebrating their 25th year as a band, the Either/Orchestra provides us with another in a string of triumphant recordings.”

Please enjoy some either/or quirky, off the wall, engagingly idiosyncratic, little big band jazz.

Bill Bruford, drummer for King Crimson, Yes and a long solo career, recently had a birthday (May 17, #74), so maybe have a listen to his band Earthworks 1991 album All Heaven Broke Loose. Allmusic: "The multi-themed originals feature top-notch playing by the quartet (Bruford on drums and electronic percussion, Django Bates on keyboards, peck horn and trumpet, Iain Ballamy on reeds and bassist Tim Harries) that looks toward Ornette Coleman at times... while traveling its own singular path. Full of unpredictability, subtle mood changes, touches of eccentric funk and a surprisingly creative use of electronic rhythms here and there, Bruford's band plays intense but sometimes melancholy and introspective music."

The video clip is from the album tour, with good sound, an Ian Ballamy vehicle. Please enjoy one of my favorite artists, who I saw with King Crimson, U.K. and Earthworks, each time an excellent show.

Here's a nice, new album by The Composers Collective Big Band, The Toronto Project. AllAboutJazz: "As a portrait of a vibrant city, The Toronto Project is fabulous; as a portfolio of superlative big-band jazz, even more so." Toronto was home to Rob McConnell and The Boss Brass, so big band jazz is a city staple. Please enjoy.
