I've been kinda going off straightish Jazz for the last couple of the years, I mean I have my long held favourites, but to tell your the truth every saxophone doodle, scream and screech, glissandos, honks, every bass run , every drum stroke, etc etc, you get the picture, it's like I've heard it all.
But recently came across Misha Mullov-Abbado (Claudio Abbado's & Viktoria Mullov's son) . It's kind of a retro approach and it puts me in mind of some of the great small ensemble work of Gerry Mulligan (who in my humble opinion gets a little overseen for his composition and arranging capabilities that rivaled if not outshone Miles Davis on many occasions).
Misha is a young bass player, composer and arranger with it seems, genetically gifted chops, check him out it's grand.
