• Blue Train (1957)
• Giant Steps (1960)
• My Favorite Things (1961)
• A Love Supreme (1965) - this is the start of Coltrane's late-career explorations - more spiritual and free-form; the later albums are not everyone's cup of tea (me included) but A Love Supreme is it's own thing, peaceful and wonderful and meditative

Coltrane, like Miles, is always changing; this period of time a different path than Miles in the same period, but equally dynamic...

Oh, we already have Kind of Blue -- it was the first "new" jazz album I purchased (the Sony Legacy 180-gram stereo reissue).

All of the Stan Getz bossa nova collaborations are great. If you like that style, check out also the Paul Desmond discography. Brubeck might be up your alley too, also Chet Baker and the West Coast jazz greats.
