Very early in the 1970s I worked in eastern Africa and the radio stations I heard played a lot of Congolese jazz. Possibly since in 1939 Leopoldville city [modern Kinsasha city (once just a city district's name)] Congolia Radio started broadcasting in several languages including Swahili (eastern Africa's trade idiom).

It's too complicated for me to do a "who's who" anthology, but I do want to cut through the massive amount of recordings here and so this post is to provide my playlist. The Congolese jazz genre was very influenced by "call and response" traditions so almost every song has singing.
