It's Settled

Amir has confirmed that Genelec 8361A is the one.

Any more attention is wasted.

If you're too poor to spend $10K on it, then suit yourself endlessly arguing pros/cons of inferior systems.

If you insist on spending more. The suit yourself into the pointless club.
I don’t think Amir has tested more than 1% of the total speaker market, so your logic is somewhat flawed.

It's seriously occupied my mind since I hear Amir say it when evaluating the Genelecs. You can find it in the video.

What is a wall of sound. How do I get it? DO I have to spend $30K on Revel speakers to get it?
If your room acoustics is horrible you can buy a million Euro/USD set will still sound horrible if not treathed or DSP corrected.

I wonder what you are trying to achieve with this thread? Do you need self-affirmation for your planned purchase? Or to justify this purchase?

First of all, a few questions: Have you even heard the Genelec 8361A?
Have you heard and compared the Genelec 8361A with other speakers?
Do you know if Amir owns the Genelec 8361A and only listens to music with these best speakers?

I have heard the Genelec 8361A twice and I wouldn't let them into my house, not even as a gift, if I had to listen to music with them all the time.
In the recording studio, I found the Genelec 8361A very impressive. Absolutely clear and detailed.

I don't know why there's such a fuss here. You can just say that these are the speakers you get if you have no constraints, and you look elsewhere if your constraints exclude these Genelecs.

But there is a defining moment.

The WHOLE PURPOSE OF THIS FORUM was to figure out what was good.

Now that we know, why continue?
Hmm... I'm not sure that in speakers there is a best in the absolute sense. There's no doubt that there is a speaker or maybe more than one that measures best in a given space. That doesn't mean that people, even sophisticated, trained listeners. might not have personal preferences that don't agree with the measurements. There may be particular environments where the speaker that measures best performs poorly. The good thing about measurements is that they provide a reliable, repeatable, objective standard of performance under standardized conditions. Measurements are a decision support tool.

If they give them to you, instead of throwing them in the garbage, let me know and I'll take them

Really even as a gift, I haven’t heard the 8361a’s in my home but I found them to be excellent .
Begs the question what do you listen to at home a coloured mess?

You didn't read correctly, I wouldn't take it as a gift if I had to listen to music all the time. I would sell it or use it for the studio, I think it's perfect for that.
And I listened to the 8361a at home. The friend who bought the 8361a spontaneously because of the hype and then brought it back after 2 weeks. And when he bought it, he was convinced that he had the perfect speaker. It seems that "hearing something nice" doesn't always work either.

My taste in music is very varied, from hip hop to jazz, classical, blues, various rock and pop genres, chansons (French and German), Irish folk music, various singer/songwriters, film music, etc. Mainly influenced by a lot of live music and concerts, well-rehearsed recordings and a preference for real acoustic instruments.

Speeking of wall of sound I found new recording the harkens back to the Phil Spector days. Lots of reverb.

i can write off $10K for hobby, but i should do something nice for her too. give me hints pls

Tell her you want to spend $10K on your hobby (as you please) , and realize it would only be fair she had $10K to spend as she pleases, too.

Much, much, better alternative than just gifting her something of equal value.
Makes you more like financial partners, rather than you in complete control......control which can turn into resentment despite the equal $ gift.

Did OP get the boot? Because frankly his tone was condescending and pretty out there.

There is no one perfect speaker. There are a lot of good to great speakers. Everyone gets to choose based on what they want or can afford. This whole thread was ridiculous.

For me, I don't want or need any active speakers. I already have plenty of equipment.

Damn, somebody must’ve told the OP that ‘ahi are running on ASR

Can’t believe some of our vets bit, that donkey was dragging some ****** lures. Hanapa’a!!

I am going to buy them. I like your music selection in "what are we listening to " thing btw. you post a lot
Then why bother us, if you know what is right for you?
I know what is right for me and, while I admire Genelec for it's great base of "the curve", once anything like that is in my home, I will set it to the baseline curve. And then I will adjust that curve to my hearing and how things sound to me when I am at live music events.
But I find them FUGLY, so they would not be let into my home.
What do I have? Vintage Dahlquist M-905's that (never measured here) but where measured by Classic HiFi (that used CBS Labs, I think) as being +-2 DB from 26 HZ-20 KHz.
This is supplemented by a couple of custom ported subs that are tuned to 29 Hz & have an FR 20 Hz-80 Hz.
This is a tri-amped system, one bridged mono NAD 2200 (@ 8 OHM) on each Dahlquist & one NAD 2200 (in stereo @ 4 OHM) on each 12" duel coil sub.
I'm happy with it in the various homes that I have had it in over the years.
Some people like things because of the Cache' the name brings, or whatever. To me, the only thing that matters is that I can get a flat slope for my reference starting point and then adjust from that known point to what is right for me (sort of like being a chef, seasoning a recipe to my taste, except with sound).
Someone might come here & say, "Oh, that midrange sound isn't correct (or some other complaint that they have about my system in my home).
And I will say: It's my system, in my house, you do not have to listen to it. Nor do you have to be here. You are welcome to leave & go muck about with some other system some where else, please don't let the door hit you in the butt on your way out.
