It had to happen.....

I assume there is one for vinyl somewhere where you can dial-in different cartridges, tracking parameters and add noisy distractions to your digital music! :)
https://www.izotope.com/products/vinyl - been around for AGES. @Alexander Gödde maybe this is the one you had in mind?

This tape simulator is interesting. It being implemented the way it is, via ffmpeg, means it's mostly for playback, not a studio effect, I guess? Odd! But maybe fun.

If you really want full circle, I remember a Richie Rich comic book in which the father had a symphony orchestra on standby in his house. Probably too warm for the digital crowd.

That was later refined and adapted to a single-blind test format, don't you know?

I mean, couple of RCA outs into a console and Bob's your uncle!

Yes I don't miss the format but I do miss the decks. By the time I could afford a really good one the format was dead.
I bought this one secondhand in about 1997, then had it fully overhauled last year. Thankfully I still have some decent tapes too! I agree there’s something about the decks themselves that still fascinates.

What a glorious machine!

Here is my Aiwa AD-F810 cassette. Still a really nice machine. A pity it never gets used but I could never sell it. That reminds me, I really must dust those shelves!

There is something about a cassette deck that looks like this one that warms my heart, even though tapes themselves were often a pain in the arse! I think it's the slick, understated product design and all those lovely, glowing indicators, they take me back to my early days of loving hi-fi gear. Nice! :)
!00%, but I like the look of a slightly earlier time.

I've never been much of a cassette guy -- ergo, a pretty unimpressive lot of cassette decks have passed through here.
this is about the best I can do...

There is not a thing about a cassette tape format that I want emulated.....
You are not alone in that assessment (FWIW).
To their credit, Nakamichi (and Tandberg, too) made some pretty darned good cassette decks. I don't have too much experience with Tandberg cassette decks, but the Nakamichi decks I've known tended to be pretty finicky when asked to perform routinely "up to spec". Kind of fiddly, high maintenance components (again, in my fairly limited experience).
