Recently wanted to add a connection from my work Macbook Pro to my home desktop audio system. Picked up a Monoprice optical cable and a Cubilux USB-C to optical adapter. When I put that all together and connected to my DAC (JDS Labs Atom 2), I got audio, but every few seconds the stream would hiccup during playback then resume. When I switched the cable to my home PC, I got the same result.

Unfortunately, I don't have an optical output to test whether the problem was with the optical cable or the adapter (or potentially the DAC, though there are no issues with the USB input). I've since returned both to Amazon but am curious if anyone has experienced the same or is willing to hazard a guess where the problem was.

I would suspect a defect or incompatibility.
In such cases, my recommendation is the SMSL PO100 Pro, more expensive but very reliable.

Alternatively, depending on the cable length, you could also use a USB-C switch and also operate your MacBook on the USB input of the DAC.

What is the make and model of your home desktop audio system?
Model of Macbook Pro?

Thanks for the rec on the SMSL - wasn't aware of that option. USB switch is also a good option - much appreciated!

I believe you listed two computers but not the audio system?
As the OP already mentioned in the first post, both devices should use the JDS Labs Atom DAC 2.
