Assume something like Wiim Ultra as "digital hub", want to route all possible source devices through preamp to benefit from DSP features and configurable max volume/voltage for speaker protection.

(Is that latter a rare feature on preamps?)

Problem is the limited number of inputs, so switcher(s) needed upstream. Preferably remote controlled, ideally from an Android app.

I think six inputs is enough, but ofc more the better, as is 1U rackmount – without ballooning cost. Secondhand is OK to get better than Behringer SQ

No recording, no mic pre-amps needed, just playback so I think not a mixer.

Must be standalone, not paying for an interface, assume no computer is in the picture – not even rPi (unless some compelling reason I'm missing?)

Either TOSlink or Coax I/O is fine but choices would be nice, save on DDCs.

I guess I really only want one switcher for both analog and S/PDIF inputs, so I can use miniDSP PocketADC's, but built-in line-level ADCs maybe saves money (at $55/per).

I "suppose" an all-analog remote switcher would do in a pinch, combo unbalanced / balanced but a Topping D10S per digital device would add up.

Gain leveling sure would be nice...

I know, I'm asking the world, thanks in advance

Very cool, maker known decent build quality?

Six ports would really be my minimum, would be able to daisy chain?

PS I did a bunch of editing since you posted...

For more inputs, it might be possible to daisy chain them, if you rely on the auto switch mode (manually it might get too complex and remotes might make it impossible). Auto switch can be tricky though as some sources (i.e. tv) might output a valid signal all the time....

Wow looks like a high quality project, thanks!

Wolfson audio processor with 7 inputs to de-jitter and refine the signal (not just a simple digital switch!)

Full support up to 192kHz/24Bit audio.

Ability to choose proper BNC connectors!

With appropriate pricing, except the tariff / shipping nowadays.

Definitely a contender...

Given that some source devices keep their signal on all the time, I'm thinking maybe better to go manual switching. Even with no remote, getting up from MLP to change sources is really NBD, I need the exercise :-D

Is it true that since Composite-Video AV "yellow RCA" (RG59, 3G/6G HD-SDI) shares the same 75Ω impedance spec

e.g Belden 1694A or 1505F is recommended for that AND S/PDIF Coax use (plus RCA analog audio)

That a cheap push-button Composite-Video AV Switch could maybe be used for S/PDIF Coax switching?

Never mind fancy jitter re-gen features?

Convert sources' outputs from

analog sources (PocketADC) or

USB (Topping D10s / 10b)

or TOSlink to S/PDIF

and Bob's your uncle?

Apparently so. Cheap enough to test anyway

@amirm

If I had one of these in an 8-port version drop shipped to you, could testing it for clean switching / transmission of S/PDIF coax signals be put into the queue?

You could even keep it :-D

I could spring for PocketADC for analog, and Topping D10S for USB (or Eitr 2, your choice) to get "do-it-all source switcher"

but those I'd need sent back.

A month or even two would be no problem, as we did with the Arylic.
