Given most people have their mains in their mixed-use living rooms, just curious if there's any manufacturers of "wife-approved" treatments? I figure someone must've responded to that market niche by now. The flat-colors or hotel print options are a bit of a hard sell as I'm sure many of you have experienced.

Specifically to my situation, I also have crown molding so if anyone has bass trap recommendations for that they're certainly welcome!

Just so I can picture it, you mean for a living room like this? :) (sorry)

You can always buy one and paint it. Or cover it in a fabric of your choice.

Ironically, that's what I was referencing with my smart-ass "hotel print" description but I didn't want to name any names. :) Do you happen to know of any others? I'll be honest, I don't even know what I'm looking for - just something that passes the wife test, I suppose...
It's it the inherent construction of fabric over the panel that's the problem, or what's printed on them?

I rather like the Vicoustic DC2 Multifuser in gray (https://vicoustic.com/product/multifuser-dc2?g=0&multifuser-dc2-finishes=Grey), as 2x2 or 2x3 panel installations can have an almost modern art feel to them:

Your wife might like some of the Vicoustic VMT products, though the range of absorption is fairly high: https://vicoustic.com/product/flat-...nes&pattern-vmt=Grey Stone&size=1190x595x20mm or https://vicoustic.com/product/vixag...tern-vmt=Pattern 4&vixagon-sizes=700x606x40mm

Artnovion also makes a range of visually interesting products: https://www.artnovion.com/. I like the Siena: https://www.artnovion.com/product-categories/6-absorption/products/23-siena-w-absorber. They also make a bass trap: https://www.artnovion.com/product-categories/9-bass-trap/products/320-sub-trap-r-h-f-range

You could consider the PSI Audio AVAA C20 and just tuck them into the corners.

You can always buy your own fiberglass and make your own covered fabric.
This is just one of many online print your own fabric companies.

How about printing a photograph on canvas and wrapping it around the panel? Would that degrade the performance of the panel?

Have a look here, but you may have to buy wholesale:

Some great options here, thank you so much @tuga , @kach22i , @youngho

@suttondesign this might be my ticket - my wife is really into traditional Japanese decor and I wager we could find something we both agree on with that approach.

You can also look for companies that make acoustic panels for offices, they are usually made in a way that isn't mega ugly. Acoustics are a big problem for big open offices.

I have wondered for some time if a topographic relief map might work as a highly decorative and interesting thing to hang on a back wall to scatter the sound.
Something like this:

( Meridian Maps )

It certainly has too many straight angles to compare favourably against purpose-built (but ugly) diffuser panels, but I think it might work as a sort of in-between a classical non-diffusing picture on the wall and a butt-ugly studio-diffuser. Maybe you'd have to custom-order a topographic model with even more exaggerated multiplier to get a greater depth.

I am using small topo-models on my walls (white foamcore board) and ceiling (corrugated cardboard) until I build out my room in finished form.

Wood will be a much better material to use.

However, compared to something science based (math/physics) a freeform sculptural element is going to be hit or miss, and more likely to be ineffectual.

I think the little things I did help, or at least do not hurt my situation.

Yes there is! decorative wooden panels are environmentally friendly, recyclable materials made of wood wool, cement and water. These natural ingredients together enable many functional features. The decorative panels are available in 5 patterns: quilting, checking, stripes, lines, diagonal and hexagon tiles. They are designed for infinity.

what kind of treatments do you want?

diffusion or absorption?

what freq.s are at issue?

what does REL show in your room now?
