I think the Genelec 8380A’s 15″ woofer is built on PHL’s 5510MNdS platform—most likely an OEM-tuned variant. Visually, the bolt positions and count match, the cone has 11 concentric corrugations, and there’s a front-side coated, glossy black finish that looks very similar to the 5510MNdS (PHL calls it a “front side coated diaphragm”). The one obvious difference is the dust cap: smooth/matte on the 5510MNdS versus a woven/mesh-like texture on many 8380A photos. For power, there’s no real contradiction: the 5510MNdS is 400 W AES with a 125 V short-term max input, so pairing it with a “500 W” LF amp in an active, DSP-limited design is normal. No official confirmation from Genelec, so I’d phrase it as “5510MNdS-based (custom)”, not the off-the-shelf retail unit.

Driver photos and the datasheet are sourced from TLHP (Toutlehautparleur) — PHL Audio 5510MNdS product page: https://en.toutlehautparleur.com/br...speaker-phl-audio-5510mnds-8-ohm-15-inch.html

As a final point: 5510MNdS does not appear on PHL Audio’s official catalog yet is available via TLHP; that official–reseller mismatch suggests it isn’t a standard retail model but an OEM-oriented variant whose over-runs or close siblings sometimes surface through resellers.
