is my sennheiser hd560s defective?

i recently got a new sennheiser 560s to replace my audio-technica m20x. i've decided to buy it because of the price and frequency response, which was said to be neutral. i also have the Topping DX1 dac/amp i use with it. My problem is that the audio of the sennheiser 560s seems too bassy, kind of muffling other frequencies, and the rest of frequencies aren't sharp. kind of how your headphones sound when you dont fully plug out your jack and leave a bit in. Im not sure if it is really defective or im just too used to my audio-technicas m20x. I can't use them now because they are broken so i can't compare, but from what i remember the audio technica m20x was less bassy and had a clearer sound. I don't believe the sennheiser hd560s sounds like this

Have you changed the gain switch on the back of the DX1?
It could be bad/dirty/worn connectors or the lead.... Try both the 6.3mm & 3.5mm sockets on the DX1 - may need a 50p adapter.

yes, the same tracks in the same media. i also checked if i maybe had some programs interfering with the audio but there was nothing

If you have a few more dollars I would suggest jumping up to the HD600's. They are on an insane discount right now, https://a.co/d/02EPw4WG. I've tried them in the past and they sound wonderful, extremely clear. They don't have massive bass but the bass they do have is very good and accurate.

got the sennheiser hd600, i expected a brighter sound but they are alright

now that i think of it probably my HD560s that i tested were not defective at all and i just expected them to sound better
