Is it an issue if I have to move one of the speakers often?

I am planning to place one of the speakers near the air inlet of the HVAC. I will need to move the speakers every few months to replace the air filter.

Is this a common situation?

Will this degrade performance in any way?

You might get buzzes and rattles from a thin metal grille. Apart from that, no jeopardy, except that you'll need to put the speaker back in exactly the same spot each time, to avoid subtle changes.

You can take the opportunity to wipe the floor.
No problem.

You might draw a minutely higher amount of wattage if the fan works harder, but no, your HVAC and filter should still work fine, especially if you're servicing it regularly. I'd give it at least a foot or two of clearance.

I'd rotate the speakers, like the tires on your car, every time you change the filter. Reason why, I'd think, is that one of the enclosures will be seeing a different environment being close to a major air exchange source. Over time that difference may show up in the loudspeakers driver condition of one enclosure vs the other.

How hard does the HVC suck? Could it not cause a slight suck-out of mid frequencies or something? :) I suppose it would be so slight that you'd hardly notice it if you measured it with REW.

It's not that Katji ... if your comment was for me ... it's that the air return area will see a higher concentration of moisture or dryer air and dirt depending on the seasons the HVAC is in use.
