Is anybody seriously impressed with WiiM's room correction solution RoomFit™'?

I plugged the good ole' UMIK-1 to my android and ran a room correction on the WiiM software (RoomFit) for my WiiM Mini (feeding my yammy amp) on the Harman setting (duhh) and boy am I impressed with how much life it has brought to my wharfedale diamond 225s.

I also have to say that I love the fact that this software seems to be tailored towards UMIK-1 owners, since you can EASILY upload the UMIK-1's calibration file to the software for even greater accuracy when it comes to measurements.

I can confirm that using the UMIK-1 provides a superior result to the phone's inbuilt microphone - the only thing that I'd love to see is the ability to upload Room EQ Wiz files directly... but I am guessing that WiiM is doing the 'we do it better anyway' thing ...

I need to try the latest version. Earlier versions were pretty bad to my ears.

I tried the room correction feature once when it was first implemented. I thought it was just okay. Since then, the WiiM Pro has primarily served as a headphone streaming device for the kids.

A few weeks ago, I checked the app again and noticed a significantly expanded range of functions.

So I connected the streamer to my main system, connected my UMIK-1 to my Android phone, uploaded the correction file, and took a measurement using the moving mic method. What can I say? I'm just as impressed as the thread starter. So I immediately ordered a Pro Plus, which has been handling the room correction in my system to my complete satisfaction ever since.

I really have to say that what WiiM now offers for the price is absolutely unrivaled. And they just keep on moving forward, constantly providing users with useful updates that actually deliver audible improvements. Great times – at least in audio.

The minimum response smoothing of 1/12 Oct already makes RoomFit a no-go for me.

PEQ's biggest value personally is in taming room modes, and 1/12 smoothing is a serious hindrance there.

Edit:
Not

Luckily, it's super easy to do MMM in REW, create the EQ correction in there, then just copy over the parameters to WiiM Home.

Yep, that's not ideal. Nevertheless, it's still possible to effectively tame room modes. Maybe a no smoothing option (at least in the bass region) will be available in the future. According to their roadmap, they intend to further improve their room correction.

Noob question. Why is the 1/12 smoothing a concern?

Great question and you're totally right: In hindsight I was unfairly blaming the 1/12 smoothing for my past troubles getting RoomFit to do what I want.

Just checked in REW again and it really doesn't smooth away anything of value, compared to my raw 1/48 data from MMM.

I think it was more my issues trying to coax RoomFit into creating sensible filters using the limited parameters (fit range, min/max gain, overall boost) where I eventually decided to just do it by hand.

I think you need a calibrated microphone to get really good results. It did tame a 62 Hz bump.

Nope, not the we do it better thing. What distinguishes Wiim is the "we can always make it still better" thing. Seriously.

The Ultra Roadmap shows "Pro Grade Filter Import" from REW and Auto-EQ as an upcoming feature. Wiim no longer lists expected dates for feature upgrades... but my guess is it will very likely happen in the next year.

Anyone Seriously Impressed with Room-Fit? - I am.

First, I was seriously impressed when Room-Fit was announced at all because when I got my 1st Wiim Mini it was not something I expected.

I was then impressed that it worked OK using default settings the 1st time I used it. Did it work as well as REW after I spent a month learning the program and fiddling with its settings.. certainly not. My 1st results with REW and a Umik were very bad. It was not the software's fault.

If you already have sophisticated Room-EQ in your setup that you or a professional tuned, I can see not being impressed. I can also see you wanting to use a different measurement tool that you are familiar with and import the settings...so lets hope that happens as promised.

Room-Fit is far more sophisticated now than it was 6 months ago with a lot more options. However, just like with R2R DACs and Op-Amp Swapping, most comparisons people make with EQ Software is not blind so is colored by the same subjective bias everything else is.

I think Room-fit currently works well enough that I have kept the UMIK but no longer mess with REW.

Room fit seems to make 10 filters that can easily and quickly be customized.

I’d estimate it would take less than five minutes to manually copy the settings from another app.

This sounds like product placement lol, but I believe you since I've experienced the same thing.

It could just be the fact that it's adding a Harman curve to the EQ (which I find creates a more enjoyable listening experience), but others have also noted that the software is able to note down distortions (due to room acoustics or the speakers themselves) and rectify those to a degree.

I would love if Wiim eventually made like an 7.2 (or whatever # of channels) AVR which allows for room correction and calibration of each and every speaker - it would be so much better than say the Yamaha software, 'YPAO' which hardly does anything when contrasted againt 'what's out there' such as REW.

This is what keeps me buying their products - if you look at the features they’ve added to the Mini in particular, but all across their line, it’s really quite impressive. They could have left the Mini with the functionality it had at launch, but instead have constantly improved it and pushed those updates out to all the existing devices.

Sorry for that;)

I'm actually using one of their current stereo receivers.
I once emailed them to ask if they were planning to add PEQ features to this device via a firmware update, and in that email I also pointed out the growing competition for whom such updates are standard practice. Here is their reply (translated into English):

"Thank you for your suggestions and feedback.

We will forward the points you mentioned to the development department in Japan so that our colleagues are aware of market demand.

Since Yamaha is a global company, suggestions for improvement are collected worldwide through our various national offices (including ours).

The feasible suggestions that are most frequently requested globally will then be implemented in a potential future version."

This statement is nearly two years old and, of course, nothing happened.
I'm now wondering if I would buy this device again, since I only really use one digital input and the rest runs through the WiiM. I console myself with the fact that I can control my subwoofers with it (other WiiM products can do that too) and that it has an automatic loudness function (which the WiiM can't do yet), which I really appreciate. And it looks better too.

I mean the Yamaha A-S501 that I have is PERFECT for the Wiim Mini - please see this thread (https://www.audiosciencereview.com/...-mini-is-perfect-for-the-yamaha-a-s501.44006/).

The Yammy's USB power supply and TOSLINK is PERFECT for the WiiM Mini - which is a super cheap solution for a great streamer with PEQ and room correction technology.

I feel as if the Yamaha is a great device on it's own and the fact that it has the power supply which only activates in Optical and Coaxial input mode makes it perfect for those looking to upgrade the product. Otherwise, there are yamaha's with music cast added in, although they cost like twice as much....

I only paid AUD $500 for a brand new A-S501 and another AUD $110 for the streamer, wher as the network amp like like $1200 RRP

On the Wiim forums, the Wiim representative made a post asking for files like REW EQ, for a planned system to upload these files directly.
I use the Wiim Correction in my bedroom, but it never worked as well as REW filters in my main listening room.
