Introducing the Phono Cartridge Measurement Library

WOW, Seems like I have to buy a III too… but maybe you can show what IV and V does too? I have a Jico SAS/B for my IV but not yet had the time to try it.
the iii and iv are the same generator. you just get the added benefit of the brush with the iv. in theory, you should get similar results with your sas/iv combo.

Notes

No wonder it is sold out…

Maybe that is what you want for a DJ scratching stylus?

“We developed ground-breaking new Taruya cartridge 01M-S that has highest performance ever.

We use blue sapphire chips which are said that the load on vinyl is low when compared to the traditional diamond stylus since sapphire is softer than diamond.
This is the world first use of sapphire for the integrated cartridge.”

Worlds first?

Yeah I wish projects like this existed when my friend bought this cartridge, as he would not have purchased it. At this point I am considering buying him a VM 95C for Christmas. Also if you look at their marketing notes for this thing you are supposed to track it at 3.5g. The other one in their lineup that is interesting is the Taruya 01-M Red, as they claim "The high output level and flat frequency response makes this cartridge ideal for club and studio, your listening room use. Wherever you are, Hear the MASSIVE SOUND!". How can anyone turn down "MASSIVE SOUND"?

Incoming . Something to measure and play with during the Xmas holiday. V15 IV Jico SAS/B and Tonar Hyperelliptical. Should be interesting to compare those, The SAS has a high VTA 32degrees, the HE looks to be far less

anything from 20k to 47k. just try and measure-try -measure. I used a potentiometer in series with 10k in paralell with the RIAA 47k

Played around with Capacitance and Resistance loading, and got to this combination that works pretty well. I unfortunately bought a box of 1000 resistors that really only had two values that I could make use of without getting out the soldering iron, which typically ends up with me either burning myself or something in the house. I may take @Balle Clorin suggestion and get a pot to trim it with.

Thanks to everyone who has helped.

Remember that that is a CBS STR-100 so if you want the actual FR output (TRS-1007 equivalent) to be close to that drop capacitance by 50-100pF for real world use.

Damn it, not I want to spend the $80 on the Ca 1007 and spend more time on it. Or… I could just listen to music. :)

Absolutely no need to do that. Like I said, just lower capacitance by 50-100pF if possible and you are all set.

CA Concept V2_130pf 47kohm_STR-100 I3.png

I purchased the Clearaudio Concept V2 ~ 2 1/2 years ago, knowing very little about it and before I knew about ASR.
Watching this thread made me wonder about the quality of the cartridge.
This measurement led me to purchasing the Ortofon 2m Black.

I read multippel places that Clearaudios MM are based in AudioTechnica MMs ..

But that downward slope does not look like AT…
EDIT CORRECTION from below. Should rather say “not look so much like a typical AT I have”.
How does it sound?

It could be based on the VM95 series - the curve looks pretty similar:

Like Tom Waits is singing through a veil? . It sounded “ok” but not great. Now that I have listened to enough of my favorites via the Ortofon, the difference is profound. Much more detail in everything, and zero sense of harshness.

I may disassemble to the CA out of curiosity. I have no other plans for it.
