but I absolutely LOVE what Schiit did with their SYN DAC + all-analog upmixer / preamp + HPamp. Now discontinued, eBay they go for $600+ MSRP used to be half that.

Works great for film nights if you hate proprietary AVR / codecs, also gaming and music, 3.1 or 5.1

Easily revert to 2ch only via remote (for sources not conducive), both Width and Presence knobs.

I think rather than ProLogic, they did something more along the lines of David Hafler (RIP 1919-2003) "ambiance extraction" I also bought his Dynaco QD1 Series II to compare, like Schiit's version best of all.

All this to say, if in future you seek alternative algo's that's one to investigate cloning

unless Jason implements it in Forkbeard or something, then maybe not






I have a Syn and I liked the surround effects it extracted. My problem with it was I couldn’t eq and I nowadays I don’t mind adding a decent adc to dac eq device to my chain.

But with a few Dspi’s in the chain.
 
CAUTION I mentioned on Discord but a reminder here. In Linkwitz Transform field the values can't be changed as the field disappears when attempting to enter a new value.
Just checked again even worse then what I said. I put the curser on target which has default 0hz and it auto enters 10hz and auto activates with 80db boost. If I did this with music playing and amp on the amp on then BLOWN WOOFER AND POTENTIAL HEARING DAMAGE

If there are converters that pass between 1x ADAT and 4x2 TOSlink in either direction (or S/PDIF Coax) at a reasonable price, (anyone please) post links

Preferably bidirectional, ideally concurrently.
Splitting is relatively easy - and you could do it with DSPi. Combining is a whole other kettle of fish unless you can guarantee the toslink inputs will be using the same format that could fit into ADAT, and synchronised.

The passive mode was already quite close to Hafler/Syn, so I made a few changes and rebranded it. It should now be a perfect clone of the Syn, complete with Presence control.

So this is just based on assuming Schiit followed some published math algo's?

I hope to do an A/B comparison one day. If yours is at least as good, that will greatly simplify things for me, reducing A/D D/A redundancies

This is based upon Schitt's description of the algorithm and matrix on their product page and some of Jason Stoddard's posts. It should be identical but I look forward to hearing users' thoughts. :)

Thank you for the report! I will sort this out shortly.

I will soon be pushing a new beta with several optimizations, the upmixer and new Control Surfaces nouns for all of the recent additions. We are getting quite close to a final v1.1.5 release.

I’ve done a bit of research on upmixers and did a Syn/Hafler style upmix on a Minidsp Flex HTx and I liked the results.

I’m not sure on the calculations but I’m wondering if height channel mixing could be possible.

I’ve always wanted to try out a Scatmos type system.

Slightly clunky but muxing four SPDIFs to ADAT via DSPi can be done using four of these ASRC TOSLINK modules. Still quite inexpensive when compared with the alternatives. :)
 
Is it possible to change I2S standard betwen I2S/LJ/RJ or is it possible to add such feature?

B. Can you explain a bit more about the UART control? What does 'pin mod 4 =' imply? Is this a usb port control substitute? That would be great.

Hi @Weeb Labs , is this only available for MacOS at this moment?
I just tried it with Windows, and didn't see any setting allowing to use the RP2350 as 8ch USB input.
Am I missing something?

You are very welcome. I2S is untested at 96KHz but it should work. Please be aware that running the pipeline at 96KHz will halve the available DSP instructions without an audible benefit.

The UART and I2C interfaces talk to the same command orchestrator as the USB vendor interface, so all system commands are reachable via all interfaces. This is with the intentional exception of UART and I2C configuration commands, in order to prevent accidents in situations where USB is inaccessible.
