I currently own an RME babyface pro and am awaiting delivery of a Topping DX5ii.

The DX5ii has USB ASIO drivers which work at low latency. If all you need is to monitor the audio output from your DAW, then why not select the topping DX5ii via USB as the audio output in your DAW and send the audio straight to the topping? That is what I intend to do.

You would need an audio interface for recording audio or if you want to integrate external effects units into your set up. I think the RME babyface is a great interface and have to admit that I love having the big black dial as a volume control with the metering on the front of the unit. The RME driver support is also second to none. But I think there are plenty of audio interface options at differing costs/channel counts that could do the job. For example, I have been impressed by a topping 2x2 which I bought for a separate task, and they have options with more channels and digital i/o.

Bottom line: RME Babyface Pro FS is great, but if all you need are a couple of audio input channels you don’t have to spend that much money.

PS - I just took a look, Topping E2x2 OTG is only £159 here in the U.K., Topping E4x4 pre is £229. I would consider these.

I run a DX5 II and e2x2 OTG and really like the functionality for gaming, streaming, and voice overs. It’s been a set and forget stack.
