Interesting Cassette Production News...

Just saw this announcement from Revox and U.S. based NAC...certainly an unlikely pairing! Might result in some decent new cassette options, beyond the basic ones from Recording the Masters ("Fox" cassettes).
OH BOY, competition for the vinyl revival, a cassette revival.
At least it doesn't have the rice krispies and surface noise of vinyl.
Unless it's used to copy an LP. LOL

The only cassette tapes that I ever found to be good enough for my ears were metal tapes, but boy were they expensive!

My mum used to work for BASF back in the day so I had bucket loads of their CrO2 tapes in the late 80s and early 90s for really cheap prices. They were pretty good as I recall, but no match for metal in side-by-side comparisons using a decent dual capstan, three head deck. I would say "those were the days", but generally speaking I disliked cassettes. Mind you, I still have a lovely, immaculate Aiwa AD-F810 in the rack which is great to look at but never used. Perhaps I'll give it a whirl again at some point.

I just picked up a new Tascam 202 dual to replace my Sony TC901ES. It lost a channel.

The new Tascam works perfectly with some tapes that are older than the Sony was.

I admit the tapes have a ways to go to catch the Reel to Reel and most of my records, but they are fine when I'm helping castrate goats on the Island. The ranch PU only has a cassette. Datsun 720 4WD 1982 or so.

All the tapes are dubs from archived metal tapes. The metal tapes still sound pretty good, considering. Maxwell 60s and 3M 60s. I've never had to many problems compared to the 90s and 120s of any brand.

Regards

This, and, they were quickly wearing off heads, even the supposedly indistructible ones.
