Integra DRX-3.4 9.2 channel AV receiver - now $579 at Adorama

idk about dolby but you should be able to use dts neural x to upmix either 5.1 DD or stereo to all your speakers

I have a friend that has a trinov and he told me that upscaling atmos has issues, so I dont know how it will work for this unit

Dirac should work regardless of the codec used as it is the last processing step. after the receiver renders all multichannel audio, it is intercepted by Dirac where all the mathematical modeling calculations and corrections are applied and then it is send to the pre-outs and to the amplifiers

Pulled the trigger on it from Adorama. Will serve well for me for next couple of years. Wanted to try Dirac full bandwidth room correction. Does this unit do Dolby Virtualizer with Dirac implemented?
How do you like it so far? Any weakness? I was thinking to use it a a stereo prepro with dirac.

I have it connected to OSD HTA5200. Separate amp made a big difference in dynamics & low end with 2 channel music in direct mode with my KEF Q150 bookshelf's. Haven't tried music with Dirac on. I am guessing I will have to play music in Stereo mode insted of Direct mode to experience Dirac. Does anyone know if playing music in Direct mode disables Dirac in 3.4?

Why would having an external amp impact Dirac? Assuming you calibrated w/the external amp connected, all your Dirac settings will apply even in stereo!

I mean to say that if I switch music listening to Direct instead of Stereo mode would that disable Dirac to minimize any processing? In Stereo mode sub is on whereas in Direct mode full range signal is being sent to front lt/rt speakers.

Ah, you were speaking listening mode on the AVR and I was thinking straight audio. Apologies!

According to the Manual:

In "Direct mode": (pg 177)
Note that the sound adjustment is not available when this mode is selected.
• The speaker calibrations measured with Dirac Live are disabled.

In "Stereo mode": (pg 180)
In this mode, sound is output from the right and left front speakers and subwoofer

Since the "Stereo mode" doesn't mention "Dirac Live is disabled", I'm guessing it's still active!

Yes, Direct will disable all DSP and A/D conversion.

That's what I am guessing that Dirac is still active with Stereo mode. Maybe someone can chime in & confirm.

Question for anyone that uses local USB storage device for flacs or other music files. I have the drx 4, been thinking of upgrading to the 3.4 but only reason initially was to get dirac so haven't felt it was worth it just for that. recently started ripping my CDs after my CD player started acting up and for the most part like the app interface to control the AVR for music playback since I can use it without turning on the TV.

My issue is the internal player for the Integra generation I have does not shuffle through all folders, on the phone app or directly on the tv interface, it just shuffles within the album that you first selected. I figured I would remedy this by also putting all the songs in a second main folder for when I want to just have random songs play, manual says 20k file limit and I'm way below that right now at 2,600.

However it's painfully slow at loading up the file directly in that folder, the one separated into folders by artist and album has no such issue so seems to be related to number of files. Takes 3 mins, on the AVR interface through the tv or the app each time I open it. Was going to add another 2k mp3s that I have but now not sure since it would probably make it even slower. Doesn't seem to cache the file directory.

Anyway, since the 3.4 is about 5 years newer than the 4, was hoping to see if it's faster in this regard which would make it more worthwhile to upgrade for me. So do people who use it this way with local USB storage have issues with long delays loading up a directory with a lot of files? Or if you have everything organized by artist and album will it shuffle through all the files on the drive? Thanks

Curious as to what DAC's Integra 3.4 uses. Debating weather to connect Wiim Ultra directly to Integra via cox vs connecting it to outboard DAC such as SMSL SU-1 & then to Integra primarily for music.

This was covered last year:

PCM1690 shared by most PAC AVRs that came out in 2021!

It depends on which integrated, some of them are no better than some of the midrange AVRs in the $1,500-$2,500 price range.

I had the Integra DRX 3.4 it's great for movies. For music, I would definitely use an external DAC via RCA in (maybe in Direct/Pure mode).

Adorama is again selling the Integtra DRX-3.4 AVR for $569 via an affiliate link from Slickdeals:
