Inside Yamaha amps

Wanted to post this here as well. Finally I got a Yamaha again.. first amp ever was a Yamaha AX396 .. after that a Yamaha AV receiver RXV471 or something like that (before 4K Blu-ray’s). Cambridge CXA81 the last 4 years … but finally the Yamaha amp that I already wanted to have 4-5 years ago but considered to be crazy money .. but now for 2500 euro for a new amp View attachment 448666View attachment 448667View attachment 448668:)
Really nice, as we have already discussed through our PM communications!
I (we) would highly appreciate if you could share the inside photo by opening/removing the top cover, since the title of this thread is "Inside Yamaha amps".:D
At least I myself do not care if someone has already shared inside photo(s) of A-S2200 on this thread; I would like to see inside of "your" brand-new A-S2200!!

And, let me repeat here again that, only if you would be interested, your near-future visit and participation on my hosting thread will be much welcome;
Let's share diagrams (and photos) of our total physical audio system and the whole signal path, with a few words and/or links

I wouldn’t use a streamer without roon anyway. All the other apps suck in comparison.
Never used Roon. Everything else sucks for you, that is you scenario.
Anyway, recently I see some centralisation of platforms and options in Wiim app (which I LOVE) that - I understand - is somehow similar to Roon.

Not even close :)

G'day from down Under - a long time member here, lots of reading but no posts until now....
Having just read through this entire thread over most of today (cold and wet outside!) I must first say many thanks to all who have contributed details and pics of the numerous Yamaha products - as an old (76yrs) electronics and hi-fi enthusiast over the last 60yrs I have found the whole thread very interesting...
I have been an avid Yamaha fan and customer since I acquired my first Yamaha receiver back in 1978 - a lovely CR1020 (wish I still had it!) and then upgrading to various Yamaha units in the 1980's including a R9 receiver, a K720 cassette deck and a DSP1 digital sound processor, the latter two still in my possession and after some repairing still work perfectly and in daily use....
I have become a big user of Yamaha's MusicCast feature over the last few years - an RX-V2085 AVR in the media room, an N-N500 and a WXC-50 in other rooms.
My music room had until recently a Yamaha RX-V685 AVR (along with the DSP1 and K720) driving a pair of Wharfedale Linton 85 loudspeakers and they seemed to work together very well - the RX-V685 running in 2 channel mode didn't seem to be underpowered or struggling in any way...
However the upgrade bug bit me and I was tempted by a very good deal on an R-N2000a receiver which has now replaced the RX-V685 driving the Lintons...

So, many thanks for reading my intro and now down to business...

Firstly let me say I am very happy in many ways with the R-N2000a upgrade from the RX-V685 - it definitely seems to control the Lintons more tightly and the stereo image is just wonderful....
BUT! This is my 2nd 2000a - the first one was returned and swapped over due to a fairly loud buzz/hum from the unit itself - nothing plugged in, other than the power cord. The hum was loud enough when playing very quiet music to be heard from my normal listening position approximately 3.5mtrs away, and from previous comments in this thread about very similar Yamaha models with toroidal transformers I have to say that there are issues around the traps, some hum/buzz louder than others - my replacement is largely hum free although now and again I can still hear (very close up) a cyclic hum that starts and then slowly fades...
In regards to heat generation - this thing hardly even gets warm to the touch even when pushed. I usually have it running all day playing from either Tidal or Qobuz and it remains *just* warm to the touch.
My upgrade has not been without it's issues however - I am unhappy with it's streaming front end and the fact that tracks played direct from Qobuz 90% of the time have very slight audio glitches/interruptions during the first 7 or 8 seconds only - as though the Yamaha buffer is still filling. (I have a high speed fibre internet connection and the R-N2000a is connected directly connected via network cable).
I contacted Yamaha support about this, wondering if a firmware update could fix it and they replied that they knew of the problem but there was no firmware fix available :(
Not happy about that...
Further discussions about a possible fix or replacement/refund have met with no answer....
Also there are problems with Tidal Connect - tracks just stop playing for no apparent reason. Not sure if this is a Tidal problem or Yamahas...
It would also be nice if Yamaha would upgrade the app to Qobuz Connect and make it capable of playing 'gapless' and also give us access to the parametric settings of the YAPO equalisation for tweaking, as in their multichannel AVR's....

So - not a wonderful and satisfying upgrade considering it had to be replaced and the cost of this new receiver and the poor response from Yamaha support.
But, in general I love it and don't want to return it... :)

Sorry for the long post!
Will finish off with a pic of my current music room setup - R-N2000a below my trusty Technics SL3300 (c1978) with the K720, the DSP1, a Yamaha SACD amongst a couple of other antiques....

I do not as yet have any pics of the innards of the R-N2000A but I do have detailed pics of the DSP1, the K720 cassette recorder, - are these allowed in this thread or is it purely Yamaha amps only?

I understand that when you spend a lot of money on an update you are disappointed if you do not get a good service. However, I can suggest, while waiting for a firmware fixer, to buy a wiim mini for about 100 euros and connect it to your amplifier for streaming services, it is a patch, but at least it works and does not cost much. If and when they update your amplifier you can move the wiim to some other secondary system

First time I used As1100 headphone out with my recent Denon AH-D7200 and it is fantastic.Detailed, large sound, separation and soundstage, all excellent. Clearly over my other dongles from Ifi and Fiio.

Yamaha with Linton's is always such a classy combo. I really need to save up for some and put the A-S500 I have here to good use.

Just opened mine up because I thought one day I want to clean it anyway..

It was fairly easy to open up (2 top screws, 2 in each panel, 2 in the back.. lift the panels upwards, remove another 4 screws on each side.)

Just a dumb question.. how is the amp grounded if the powerplug only has 2 pins ?

They are amplifiers designed with double insulation, they do not have a real grounding, but thanks to their construction they are certified to be safe for the user.

Would this cause grounding problems with a traditional 3 pin device in the same setup ? I might want to add a vintage tuner or something in the future. Or maybe a SACD player .

Or would a cheater plug like the Ifi Ground Defender even work in such a scenario?

Just asking because I have been reading about such issues with the Bluesound icon XLR out with a floating ground amplifier

What type of volume control does Yamaha use on the R-N800A? Is the volume control digital or analog? Is there an analog-to-digital conversion, calculations, and then back to analog? Or is a resistor ladder or other analog solution simply used? What difference does the Pure Direct button make?

Hi ,

Knowing Yamaha amps (a little), it will most likely be analog
the ones i have currently or had in the past were/are all analog Volume pots,
which by the way are very good, even to very low levels i hear audible no difference
between left and right channels, not even with headphones.
