Infinity Reference 253 Review (speaker)

Just my 2c here:
With all respect to work @amirm did twice already I would suggest to just test another speaker because this one can have issues if amp end up in protection so easily. If there are crossover issues then there is no point to believe in graphs with dip and generally "hot highs". Based on some rate of manufacturing defects it can just happen. Sad thing would be to ban this speaker just because of one bad sample. Maybe Infinity can just send a new crossover to Amir :)

Not going to lie, it had to be pretty funny when Amirs' amp gave out on budget speakers, I'm sure he wasn't expecting that.

Well... the amp is currently partially faulty so he probably won't find it very funny. My $500 crown amp died couple years ago, I can't imagine what it would feel like to have an $25k amp die on me. I'd probably die too hehe

With 25k amp I would expect at at least 15 years of guarantee if no more.

Not many offering that level of coverage - Bryston is the only one I can think of offering a 20 year warranty. (I've owned 2 sets of Bryston amps, but always sold within 2-3 years, so never got to 'appreciate' the warranty coverage)

Based on the most minimal investment from a budget these represent, I'm ordering a full set for the LCRS (253, RC263, and two R12s). This will be my 6th set for the ongoing HT experimentation. (e.g., multiple Paradigm systems, ELAC Uni-fi, Martin Logan Motion...) - the HT room is a treated 27 x 23 in size, with a 150" screen, and currently holds a couple subs - it goes without saying, I've had wildly differing results; so just another experiment for measurement/eq. (it also sits next to my critical listening system which I've spent way too much $$/time over the years - so dual track of experimentation) Curious to the results as this is the first set of items from the Harmon family.

@amirm, @pozz (sorry, not sure who to report this to)
I was just researching these speakers and noticed that the Master Review Index is still showing a "No" recommendation.

They are on sale at the moment for $150 each on the JBL site.

Will fix, thanks.

So if I have followed everything correctly, there was a Klippel mic issue plus a failing ML amp in the original review? (multiple failure odds?)

Was it finally determined that the speakers are not in fact defective?

(Also, I think Amir probably mistyped "263" when he meant "253".)

Currently on sale for $150/each. That is an absurdly low price.

Funny how now that we know what was really happening all the people heaping scorn on the speaker and not for a moment considering the amp could be failing haven't come back to post that they jumped to conclusions. Very reasonable conclusion albeit, but ultimately conclusions that were born out to be incorrect. So the final analysis seems to suggest that for the money these are actually some pretty decent speakers. Not giant killers, but if I only had $300 and needed speakers to fill a small room with decent sound it does seem that these could fit the bill. Unless I am missing something here.

And for the record I am sorry for Amir's amp. That would be upsetting. More upsetting is me never being able to afford such an amp. First world problems for sure we all have.
