An ENTIRE subforum for snake oil?? I don't think that's necessary? What about chucking it in the "Member Area" subforum where all the snake oil threads can live with UFO discussions?
I think a "Help" subforum where people post measurements or questions would be far more, umm, helpful.
Big agree on this one.
This is my main motivation to create the new subforum. I currently stick all the tweak reviews in the analog section, making them hard to find. I have done a ton of these already from power to wiring. So would be good to give them a dedicated home.As Amir and I discussed, reviews of products would have a home in this subforum as well.
You could try just not reading the UFO thread? While at it ? The UFO tread , some post in it are not fit for the forum, possibly magnitudes more insane than the typical subjectivist hifi drivel ?
Some pure conspiracy theorist moon hoax stuff is hiding out in that tread , things no well intended forum would like to be visible or searchable .
I vote for removing it entirely or bury it in the snakeoil sub forum , some of the believers could moderate it with the titel "supreme grand cuckoo"![]()
Just seen this post - but to add my feedback.Hello fellow ASR members!
Just wanted to take a moment to acknowledge some less obvious, but valuable efforts that go on here. I have seen a few posts since I resumed moderator duties that emphasize that there is only one ASR moderator now. While it is true that I am the only current holder of the moderator badge, the resulting activity is greatly improved by:
Finally, would just like to emphasize I may not always be your notion of an ideal moderator but am trying. Before I take action, I usually will give you some early feedback rather than issue warning points or a ban. If you have a question or complaint, use the Report feature or start a personal conversation with me. I try my best to be fair and objective. If you do not like my response, you can always appeal to Amir. Posting your complaint on a thread is less likely to help your cause and any extended dialog only clutters it for others.
- Several key supporting members that add their time and effort to improving moderation here. Some bring added experience and others just put in some extra effort. As many may not want their contributions known, will not identify these members specifically, but want to thank you for your support! I do not do this job alone.
- Amir (who actually does a little moderation) has been supportive as I am still an apprentice moderator here. Navigating a membership that is culturally diverse, technically diverse and often strongly opinionated is challenging. Balancing tolerance while maintaining order is notably so. When frequently dealing with more negative issues, it can be difficult to see the more positive side. Amir has helped me do so.
- All the ASR members who show restraint, respect others and contribute your talent to help others here, my sincerest thanks as well.
Thanks again for supporting me and ASR!
Sincerely,
Rick

Exactly! More should resort to using it no matter the level of hors*sh!t being spewed.Thank you Rick, I find the "ignore" feature to be a very handy filter for a level of personal intolerance.
Problem is audibility is key. Technical discussions are meaningless unless they are framed against a backdrop of common understanding of what is audible. What about a tag in the discussion thread, "Technical Discussion, Not Audibility"? These discussions could lead to audible differences, but the topic would be flagged to make it clear that the intent was not to challenge long-standing claims regarding audibility.
