Improving ASR as a member/moderator

I've been getting a lot of sponsored ads in my google feed for portable AC units in the past few weeks. I've never searched for them or discuss them in any way. Strange.
Maybe (or, probably) there are already AI bots in the wild, faking people's searches?

Has the weather been hot in your area recently?

There is an ongoing portable ac unit scam that’s trending at the moment.

The product itself is a scam .

Put all.new users in quarantine by highlighting threads started by new users.
That would certainly be helpful.

Alas, it goes against my rule that new members not face an immediate obstacle when they register. People register because they finally have a need to say something. A moderated post means they type it all but nothing becomes public until we approve which may be many hours. Their response in a thread then will be out of date or not seen if the thread keeps going.

So as much as it is extra work for us, I rather have legitimate users have a first class experience by not doing that.

How about skipping quarantine but just highlight their post so that we can avoid. I spend a good chunk of time on ASR ignoring members, mostly new members. It would be a time saving way of avoiding their posts.

If I'm not mistaken, you were also completely new here on August 13, 2024. Everyone was or is completely new here at some point.
Why should anyone ignore new members?
Your way of thinking strikes me as very strange.

Hi Rick,
Where would be the best place to post suggestions for improvements or ideas regarding ASR that relate more to the structure and the XenForo software?
Here?
In another existing thread? (Which one?)
In a brand-new thread?

A new thread is often best. If you want some feedback before doing so, ask here. Can copy it to new thread if it has enough interest.

And don't forget to post a link here ... just saying
