If there was a rule of no politics, it should have been followed by everyone. If not there was an easy way... no political threads for couple of weeks/months till things settle down.

Also why are we worried about cheap amplifiers in first place? Is this hobby only dependant on cheap products ? Level matched (if made proper) they sound same anyway . Still if one wants it just wait for it. A running stream water finds its way. So till things settle down one can buy vintage amp, used amp, diy or wait for affordable products to come by. People have waited for cheap TPA3255 amplifier for few months.

I would again suggest no political threads for few months.

Request moderators to laugh it off and rejoin and lets discuss audio. Make forum great again.

Ah yes, I remember the Alan Greenspan days well, when change was always micro moves. Thirteenth chairman of the US Federal Reserve, serving from 1987 to 2006. He developed a style of communication known as "Fed speak," associated with ambiguous and wordy statements, intentionally designed to be vague and complex. Leaving you scratching the head as to what he really said.

There is one language that most appreciate. It's known as kindness. Those that possess it can be infectious.

That depends exactly what you’re talking about. Because such a comment is redolent of the type of tribe testing/purity testing that gets noxious really fast.

I’m not reading the following into your comment, but the reason I’m raising the question is that:

Some people come at this with a self-righteous bull in a China shop attitude (so rife in social media) where they raise a morally/politically contentious topic, and if somebody says “ I don’t think this is the place to discuss that topic” then the moralizer makes the move to “oh, so you think everybody should just keep silent about this topic?” and moments later “ why are you covering for fascists?”

And so some might make the move implied in your comment that if they don’t want to discuss a divisive non-audio subject on an audio forum, that this amounts to acquiescence or support for some evil or viewpoint the person doesn’t actually hold.

You see these type of toxic moves made all the time on social media, and unfortunately no forum is immune.

In much of the world, American politics has long been bigger news than local politics. I lived overseas and traveled very often from 2016 to early 2018, and I could not escape queries regarding my political affiliation, most memorably from the owner of a restaurant in Berlin where my wife and I were dining! (I smiled and declined to answer her queries, to her dismay.)

Similar experiences in South Korea.
When I was 5 or six (1963, I was thrown over a fence in Salzburg, Austria (where I was born [I was concieved by my Austrian mother in the USA]) by a guy (the grandfather of my female playmate) because he hated Americans.
It had zero effect on us playing with each other more than momentarily (their family was across the street neighbors, as even his wife thought that he was a wack-job).
I guess that the team of women behind me (my Austrian mother, my Austrian grandmother and the man's Austrian wife) put him into his place, as that did not occur again.
But, yes, just because you are from somewhere (or associated with somewhere or believed to be a certain way [even at 5 or 6])...

I was pretty active on that politics thread that got shut down and being a political animal would have liked to see this forum expand to include this.

My belief is that most/all members of this forum believe in facts and I would be optimistic that any diverse political views would be discussed factually and not resort to magical thinking or idol worship.

The safe guard I suggested would be that only known members with a track record in audio posts would be allowed into the politics forum.

The other positive aspect of this forum (with regard to a political forum) is we have members from around the world thus the gene pool of diverse political views/life experiences would be far wider than your typical echo chamber political forum (especially a US one)

But, the bigger question is would we even be considering a political forum if the events in the US weren't what they are?

And with the absolute polarization of US politics (which I believe is now a terminal disease) a political forum here ,which at this juncture would be mainly US focused ***, wont move the polarization needle.

Maybe have a poll... even if to see how many members would participate in a political forum.

No, I would not want your job. But I'm mystified why you're making it 100x more difficult than it needs to be by not excluding all political discussions. As others have posted previously, if we want to talk about that stuff we can go elsewhere. Even LinkedIn, much to my surprise, with people posting with their employer's name right on their profile. (So dumb.) This is the best site I'm aware of for audio discussions, the only one I consistently learn from, the only one I donate to, and the whole idea of reading political posts makes me want to stay away. Please keep ASR pristine, and all about audio.

It should be possible to discuss the efficacy and desirability of something like tariffs without having the discussion descend into politics. It should be possible to state facts about the matter (because there are such facts) and identify policy preferences without taking political sides. And it should certainly be possible to engage in discussions on these topics in respectful ways.

But we live in a world where people cannot discuss, say, vaccines without descending into something very nearly approaching interpersonal violence.
