Hopefully the Trump's tariff about exception on electronic devices will also apply to audio gears.
He said this today lol
“There was no Tariff ‘exception’ announced on Friday,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post on Sunday. “These products are subject to the existing 20% Fentanyl Tariffs, and they are just moving to a different Tariff ‘bucket.’”

I am the only one posting in that thread and am perfectly fine with anyone developing a negative view of me. No one else is allowed to post or share anything in that thread.
You just need and outlet!

With respect, what’s the point of that thread? Do you think it’ll change anyone’s mind, or have any political impact at all?
So you're suggesting that people should just hold their tongues on topics like this for fear of negative consequences for speaking up?

Yes, it will change people's mind. It is also informative as evidenced by many compliments I have received about it. It is rare that one can so easily explain the flaws as put forward by the proponents.
I hope I’m wrong on this, because (without going into any detail…) I’m on your “side” of the argument, so to speak.

But, it seems hubristic to think you’re doing anything other than preaching to the choir.

Tariffs stand to change the face of our shared and beloved hobby. It is not unreasonable to discuss them here.

A lot of people say the same type of thing to Amir on the subject of audio. But the fact is not everybody has their heels dug in on a subject, and some can learn something new and even be persuaded by new arguments and facts presented to them.

I’m not weighing in on whether Amir’s locked thread was a good move or not (I personally enjoyed reading his views on the subject), but I think the “ preaching to the choir” critique is a familiar one but often inaccurate (and can lead to unwarranted cynicism or despair).

I just want to throw in a word of support for Amir and the position he’s taken. The absurd policies announced a few days ago, partially stalled since and still looming, threaten all of us.

In particular it threatens businesses and consumers in the world of hifi. I find it especially disturbing given that impressive Chinese engineering has helped diminish western prejudice and clear some of the nonsense out of the hifi industry that we have had to put up with. The influence of ASR can’t be denied and Amir and others here should be proud.

I hope businesses survive and sense prevails.

Am I the only one watching the Masters?
It happens not far from me, so I've heard. Something about a green jacket an ex-fiancé said who has attended every one since she was 18, told me. Been hearing about it since I was a little kid. Saw a lot of golf on TV by accident when I was in S. Korea & Japan (you know, go somewhere & it's on in the background).
I spent 3 days on a driving range in Thailand & then played 18 holes with friends (I was doing the best but I quit at nine, told them I would just use my camera while walking the rest of the very beautiful course). I'm sorry that I ever spent any time thinking about it. I did make up for the lost time by taking my girlfriend at the time to Singapore. She asked me, "Did you play Golf to have fun?" I said "That was the intent." She asked "Did you have fun?" I said "No." She asked "Why did you do that, then?" I said "I just thought that it might be fun, but I was wrong, Now lets go do somethings that are fun, there are plenty of ways to do that here."

It appears to me that Amir on the one hand, and Adam, Brad and James on the other, have disagreed strongly but have done so WITHOUT vilifying the other side. Ime THAT'S the way it should be done. The current vogue of mocking, vilifying, and demonizing those we disagree with, regardless of whether the arena is audio or politics or belief systems or whatever, is imo a misplaced insistence on being the one who is "right". Kudos to Amir, Adam, Brad, and James for setting a high example.

The only people that can take us down are us; go enjoy some audio threads. :)

No, I said nothing even remotely like that.

I’m saying that ruining good places in an unrealistic attempt to shift a political conversation is a net negative.
First part does not jibe with the second. In this scenario, the negative consequence of Amir speaking up is potentially "ruining a good place".

You didn't say a thing, you spelled out a sound and seem to think it has great import.
I think that the spelling out of a nonsensical sound had great import.
Not everything is objective (although that is what we should be striving for here [facts that can be measured, dealing with audio gear]).
I am hoping that we can get back into our lane, we seem to have gone overlanding or something similar.

actually the whole world is wondering why Americans are not reacting. Every single person counts. Americans have to stand up and do something. There should be millions protesting on the streets at this point.

it seems like that this is only an issue because the "front page" and "forum" are viewed as being the same thing. although this site has many contributors, I feel like it is anchored by Amir's contributions. if this site had a clear divide between front page and forum, I do wonder if this would even be an issue

Sad to see the result of this. While I see the reason of both sides, I think the end result was a little harsh. I would have chosen more or less like "ok, from now on, mods handle the daily troubles everywhere else, and leave politics and tariffs: now it is up to Amir to handle these, you reap what you sow". A middle ground instead of a complete break up.
