imersiv D-1: a £12,000, 140 dB DR DAC

Sound on Sound published a review of the imersiv D-1 DAC. Apparently it measured dynamic range is over 140 dB and SNR -138 dB at 0 dbFS, though they claim even more, just not measureable by the AP. It uses two converters, one with shifted inputs. Due to how it works it requires calibration when there's a change to what it is connected. There's a headphone amp, but I'm not sure if it uses the same path as the DAC. At £12,000 it's prohibitively expensive, but the idea is interesting.

For £12K, I'd want it to automatically calibrate everything in my house!
At least it will sound even quieter than when I put my ear against a black hole.

Interesting dual DAC concept. Whether there is real improvement over a single DAC in terms of listening I doubt. Sure measurements are impressive but beyond my hearing ability.

This came across my Facebook feed. It's a company based in California that's claiming 28-bit true performance. The link just leads to a landing page with a few quotes from professional engineers. The fact they are announcing/showing it at AES instead of launching it at an audiophile show...
