I'm done with ASR!!!!

That's a good choice and we are completely on the same page. Outside of speakers, audio has mostly been a solved problem for 40+ years. I still run 5 of the 30+ yo Adcom power amps in my rig. But If one day they finally crap the bed, I'll look to ASR and Amir to determine their replacements.
To tell the truth even some back to their day excellent engineered 40+ year old loudspeakers can measure and most importantly sound good by today's standards, I am currently listening to some from 1969(!) and don't really miss much compared to my current ones.

I hold onto gear for a long time..for example the mono blocks I just replaced are over 20 years old, the DEQX is 13 years old and I use daily my 2006 era Slimdevices Transporter in my office system.

My long term mantra is: do the research up front (in terms of measurements, functionality and build quality) and longevity ensues. Much the process/metrics you apply when selecting a wife/partner.

Peter
I am completely with you. Good speakers and amps can last mighty long time. Processing changes, so upgrading a processor is probably wise once there are developments that you deem are worth implementing.

I am afraid that many people might have used a different process/metrics for choosing a wife/partner. The four letter word is probably the most dangerous thing in the world, partially because of its transitory nature.

Hey, I resemble that remark! ;)

There used to be an old adage :
"Men choose woman for what they are today, and women choose their man for what they could be in the future!"
That 'future'' became the 21st Century... So much so that, I can even be accused of misogyny (or sumsuch) for the above quote!

I have a funny feeling that this post is not going to age well......because many of us have said this before

Well, I am going on 7 years without touching a single thing in my main rig, other than adding a Wiim Mini this year. I realized it was a long journey of wasting money... which can be fun until it becomes repetitive and we question the benefit. But if I like the functionality and features (and design) of something new, hey, why not... eventually... maybe...

Just to repeat (covering all bases)

1- I will be coming to ASR just as much as before but now my purchases are done, I won't be viewing ASR thru the eyes of someone looking for the "new shinny"

2- I had a big splurge in the 2005 - 2007 period when I brought a complete new system and the only new purchase *** I have made in that time was to replace my Bryston DAC and pre-amp with a DEQX HDP-4 in 2013.

Summary: me frequenting ASR twice daily won't change (in the morning and at night to help me sleep) nor will my tendency to hold onto gear for decades change either.

Peter

*** I have made big changes in removing gear that supported spinning black and silver disc (to now be 100% digital file based) but that's another story

I shall never leave/quit ASR, even though I have almost (maybe never to be completely) established/settled hardware and software of my audio system as well as my room acoustic environments (ref. here, here and here; Hyperlink Index here and here) with nice and acceptable WAF, very fortunately! :D

My main focus within ASR is gradually and slowly shifting towards my personal enjoyments of various preferable "music" (e.g. ref. threads here, here, my hosting thread here), and towards various "Audio Reference/Sampler Music Playlists with some objective analysis data" fit for my preference and interests (e.g. ref. my hosting thread here).

I haven't made an audio purchase since 2018, other than CDs, streaming music, and downloads.
Feels good.
But I can't quit ASR....
ASR always needs shiny new hardware for testing, reviewing, sharing, bickering... but most importantly for prospering.
You see where this is heading?

I'll let others buy stuff and ship it to our host for testing.

I submitted one of the first pieces for testing way back in 2018, found out from our host exactly what was wrong with it (confirming some vague impressions I'd had), and promptly sold it on Audiogon.

I am mostly done with ASR for similar reasons. I too was caught up in what's the latest and best measuring gear - preamplifiers, speakers, headphones, IEMs, headphone amplifiers, and DACs (what originally attracted me to ASR). I rolled through a few of each until I found a system that works for me. The spoiler in my signature is what I use and am very, very happy with today.

I run EQ everywhere which is one of the many things I learned and implemented because of my time here. I am semi-retired now - collecting social security and doing a little consulting on the side - and have found other interests to fill my time.

Still, I keep an eye out here... Eventually, I'll need to replace a slowly failing Pioneer Elite SC-LX801 AVR, but until it completely dies or I find an AVR in my price range with the performance and features I want I'll stick with what works, for now. I see no reason to change anything else unless I one day I find the deal I cannot pass-up and pick-up a pair of Dan Clark headphones.

I read reviews and frequent "A Call for Humor" contributing what I can. (RIP Boris Badinov wherever you may be...)

Now back to lurking,

Martin

+1
We should start a petition to bring him back!
I am hoping he has traded all his Likes for a great vacation in some great resort.

Thus the days of me breathlessly scouring ASR for the latest reviews are done.

...this represents delusional thinking IMHO....

...but now there will be a sense of composed diligence rather than desperation....ask me how I know this...

I haven't bought anything other than a few headphones in the last 4 years. 5 years ago I moved and sold or gave away all my expensive gear. I passed forward my love of sound systems by letting stuff go cheap or free. Now I have a sound bar system with a sub and it sounds pretty good. I still get the twinge for more though when the wife is not here and I can turn things up! I also miss the wall shaking thunderous bass I had. But, I just don't have the money to reproduce a set up like that. I did use Amir to get some headphones. I sent him a message and said I wanted a headphone to use without any EQ that was bass heavy. He gave me a recommendation and it was fantastic. So, I got my money out of my free ASR visits!

What headphone was that?
