I've always used a power strip to turn my vintage Mcintosh gear on and off because the power switches are getting hard to find and are very expensive if they fail. Is this safe? Is it ok to do the same thing with my audiophonics NC252MC as well? I read here on ASR about one of the members having the front power switch fail after three years. Gracias

In most cases where the switch action is substantial and not 'feather touch' and there is no remote on-off functionality switching the mains is exactly the same as the power switch on such a device.
Both simply just turn the mains power on and off.

If it doesn't send a nasty pulse of DC through your system, why not. My Benchmark DAC2 and Topping VX3 amplifier aren't so well behaved when I do that, but my old Mac MR71 and tube amplifiers were fine with it.

Thank you. How would I know if it did send a pulse of DC?

If you don't hear it as a big 'ole thump, you may see the woofers of your speakers go crazy for a moment.

Some components output a large turn-off thump, because their DC plus & minus supply's decay at different rates.

So the pros have a turn-on / turn-off sequence rule.

Turn-on:
1] source units
2] control units
3] power amps

Turn-off:
1] power amps
2] control units
3] source units

Thanks, that's helpful. I have a Minidsp Flex hooked up to the amp. Would that be a control unit? And a raspberry pi hooked up to the Flex which I never turn off.
