Ifi..........

I would like a amp to drive the he6se v2. The L70 cant. I start getting sound at -8.0 db and thats about it.
Sounds like your system is misconfigured. The L70 has no issues driving the HE6 to ear-shattering volumes of 115+dB SPL Peak.

Use a multimeter to double-check that you're getting the expected voltages and gains.

Several years ago, I purchased an ifi "Silencer" dongle which promised to bring new levels of fidelity to my high end system. Of course, it did not and it was money wasted. In the future I will never purchase another ifi product.

YMMV

I had a iFi Nano several years back and I found it totally lived up to the claims and I felt it was quite performant. Now that was quite some time back now so I make no claims about iFi and their current practices or gear.

Another who has been bothered by both the cheesy brand name as well as their claims. I wouldn't even consider them myself. As to your experience in the past, could be due use of tone controls/eq as well as speakers of the day, hard to know.

Names don't usually matter for me. Deceptive claims mind you do bother me. My very limited experience with the iDSD Nano (I believe that was the model) was very positive.

At the time the feature set and build quality was for me quite acceptable and I found it perfectly audibly transparent.

I'm old enough to remember that when I listened to music it moved me. It gave me an emotional reaction. It wasn't cold and sterilized. Bass hit you in the chest, vocals were clear and present. Even 80s music sounded good. Now everything I hear is cold. Everyone suggests EQ. And I've done so, but I remember a time when I didn't have to do such things.

Maybe you're just getting old. :)

I generally didn't find much in the 80s that I would say sounded good. I found much of the music brilliant, but no, not particularly good sounding. Some exceptions though.

Yeah, the sources were all limited fm, vinyl, tape....speakers had certain sounds but there were some good ones and not very expensive too. The music started to devolve in the 80s, tho I did fully participate :)

So... you're saying iFi is a bit iffy?

From 'Sunscreen'':

"Accept certain inalienable truths, prices will rise, politicians will philander, you too will get old, and when you do you'll fantasize that when you were young prices were reasonable, politicians were noble and children respected their elders"

Can you elaborate on this please. Misconfigured?

Not trying to poke a bear here, but what 80s music that was brilliant (composition/musicality/songwriting/instrumentation etc) but sounded poor to you? Is it low budget, private labels or just most things in general?

My best mate and I have been going through 'our' 80s 'coming-of-age' experiences in music and, to be honest, when we play the original pressings (be that CD or vinyl) from that era, we are not left wanting. The quality was/is excellent. But our experience is mostly Australian, UK and to a lesser extent US material. A lot of early digital adopters.

Last Saturday, I went to a massive book/CD/comic/DVD etc fair. Took over a huge convention centre. $2.50 per disc. Bit expensive if you ask me, but I got some classics- especially some very early target pressings and a few rare discs. I bought 38 CDs.

Sound quality is insane, especially on early west German and Japanese first pressings. And yes, I had to grab another copy of Donald Fagen's Nightfly- you can never have enough.

Can you elaborate on this please. Misconfigured?
The Hifiman HE6se, per Amir's test, has an impedance of 64 ohms and requires 1.37 V input to reach 94 dBSPL.

The Topping L70 can output >15 V into 64 ohms, and will be able to drive the HE6se to >115 dBSPL, if everything is setup and working properly.

OK. The d50 iii is connected to the L70 through the balanced output. 1st I thought it was my cables. I had my xlr cables connected to a trs adapters. I then purchased custom trs ended to xlr cables. No change in sound output. I went into the menu of the d50 iii to make sure it was set to 5v output and it was. The L70 is set to high gain. So where am I misconfigured? Again it runs everything else to high levels of sound, but the he6se v2 is very low.

Side note: I know the he6se v2 is in working order because a friend of mine brought me the topping pa5 with his cables and it was great. They sounded wonderful and powerful but he stated that for prolonged use he would recommend me getting the adapter from hifiman.

Are you able to conduct any electrical measurements (resistance and voltage)? Do you have access to an electrical multimeter?
