Sonic Oracle is a music discovery engine I built for Tidal and Qobuz and it's now also available as a mobile app on Google Play. ( iOS will be available next week )

Here's what it does. Three ways to discover music, all from your phone or desktop.

Search by artist. Type in an artist you love, pick a depth level, and a permanent playlist lands in your streaming library. Essential is genre-pure: search a jazz trumpet player, get only trumpet players back. Search a punk band, get only punk. Balanced widens the circle. Adventurous crosses genre lines entirely and finds connections no streaming app would make.

Search by song. The newest feature. Start from a single track you love and the engine builds a full playlist from there. Deep cuts and hidden gems in the same space as the song you searched.

Search by genre and decade. Pick a genre, pick a decade, hit Discover. No seed artist needed. 44+ sub-genres from bebop to shoegaze. If you want 70s jazz or 90s hip-hop or 00s ambient, the engine builds the playlist from there. No other discovery tool offers this.

The Vault is what ties it all together. A proprietary track database I built from scratch. Every playlist is unique. Run the same search twice, two different results. Your streaming app plays you the same 20 tracks from an artist on repeat. The Vault plays you their full catalog.

Every playlist is permanent, editable, and lands directly in your Tidal or Qobuz library. Roon, Audirvana, Lumin, Naim, Aurender, dCS, everything picks it up automatically. About 15 seconds from search to play.

Nice initiative!

Are there databases that rate songs? So you can have the “best” per genre or artist?

Yes, there are sites that rate songs and albums, RateYourMusic and AllMusic are the best known, and streaming platforms also track how popular each song is with listeners.

However, Sonic Oracle's selection runs on a proprietary recommendation engine

"sites that rate songs and albums"

Is there anything worse than other people's music or the sucky and transient likes of consumers? :) :)

This is exactly why I built The Vault. Streaming apps rank everything by popularity and play count. The Vault does the opposite. It pulls from an artist's full catalog regardless of how many streams a track has. No popularity ranking, no consumer trend chasing. The result is a playlist full of tracks most listeners have never heard.

Sure, not every deep cut is a hidden masterpiece. Some tracks are buried because they deserved to be. The toggle exists for this reason. If you want the safe, proven tracks, switch to Popular. If you want to dig and find the ones that slipped through the cracks, The Vault is there. You decide how deep you go. And the best part is that these playlists are fully editable, so if you don't like a track, delete it

Cool, thanks for making this and sharing it!

I am somewhat disillusioned with algorithmic music discovery as a concept, but efforts to improve it are certainly welcome.

Thanks!
The thing is, algorithmic discovery is designed to keep you listening to what's safe and familiar. I built Sonic Oracle because I wanted the opposite.
I'm an audiophile with more music than you'd imagine, and I still find myself playing records I haven't touched in years. An amazing song comes on and I realize I had completely forgotten about it. Why do streaming apps never play those B-side tracks?
And that is basically my tool in a nutshell.

Give it a try and see if the results feel different from what you're used to.

Does it work with FOSI S3? They call Qobuz in their app "Qobuz Connect" but it still uses the cellphone as a data relay.

So this tool is there to mine the clinkers. They are clinkers for a reason. Will it find music not yet on Tidal or Qobuz or are they source of the data and this is a "better" search engine than they provide? Roon claims the same, so how is this different?

Yes. Sonic Oracle creates playlists directly in your Qobuz account. Any app or device that connects to your Qobuz library will see them, including the FOSI S3.
Create a playlist on sonicoracle.music, open Qobuz on your FOSI, and it should be there.

Unfortunately Spotify is not longer offering developer API so for the time being that is a dead end. If and when they'll offer it again I'll surely integrate Spotify as well
For now is available for Tidal, Qubuz and YouTube Music

where B the free trial?

would really like to try and see if it works on S3.....b4 I buy.
@SonicOracle

Yes a free trial is available. First 3 playlists are free. No credit card required

Interesting, but have found Spotify makes decent recommendations and I don't use the other services.....

@SonicOracle where is free trial? Do I just proceed with purchase and the trial starts first before I am charged?
Sorry I am ignorant about these things.

If Spotify is working for you, stick with it. Sonic Oracle is built for Qobuz and Tidal users who want deeper discovery and hi-res playlists. If you ever make the jump, we'll be here.
