If you're in the US of course you will. Here's the Minidsp Flex.

Well injust received a different electronics item from China and no tariff on it this my w erosion
Well "not of course" as I just received a different electronics item from China and no tariff on it thus my question to confirm before trying to order.
Then is a no go at this time. Lame

There is a big difference between tariffs or indeed any import charge in theory and practice . Plan to pay the tariff but that doesn't mean you will.

What Minidsp product are you looking for? Parts Express or Deer Creek might have one. Try to find used is another option.

The major question is: do you have to buy just now?

A number of off-topic and politically-oriented were deleted from this thread.

No points were issued, let's kept it that way please!

Just make in USA. Be cheaper than tariffs.
But all the parts need to be imported, with tariffs applied. And then you have more expensive assembly.

For example, let's imagine a MiniDSP Flex at $495 retail shipped (before tariffs) is:
  • $100 BOM
  • $50 assembly and QA
  • $50 shipping, warranty, service, and other COGS (cost of goods sold)
  • $50 marketing and advertising
  • $50 R&D
That's $300, leaving $200 for a reasonable 60% gross profit margin before operational costs like management, offices etc.

Now they move everything apart from the BOM to the US:
  • $250 BOM after tariffs ($100 + $145)
  • $150 assembly and QA (mostly manual work so x3 cost vs China)
  • $100 shipping, warranty, service, and other COGS (cost of goods sold) (performing warranty and service work in the US will be more expensive, especially as consumer laws are stricter)
  • $50 marketing and advertising (no change)
  • $50 R&D (no change)
That's $600, making the retail say $1000 for the same 60% margin (sales will be lower due to the increased price, that's why we assume the margin isn't lowered), vs $1250 for the same item manufactured in china and imported. Seems like a win! But... we haven't accounted for the cost of setting up a new assembly plant in the US just to serve the US market, the risk that it won't be worth it because the tariffs will get dropped later, etc.

If I was the CEO of MiniDSP or any similar company I'd not like these numbers at all and would just let my US customers eat the tariff.

Want to be as open and fair as possible, if not specific to minidsp, please post other tariff content to here:

Thanks!
