I have TT with built in high quality ADC and USB output. If it run the USB output into an SMSL PO100 or like device, can I feed the Toslink out into my DAC? Or must the USB out from my TT only be fed into a computer?

I think you'll need a computer in the middle, but maybe if you tell us what device you have we can give a better answer.

I'm only guessing here, but if the purpose of the PO100 is to turn the USB out into a SPDIF out than I would assume it would then be usable in a DAC. However, if you don't have such a device already why not get a DAC that takes a USB in and be done with it? Better still, what's preventing you from using the ADC out?

I know that the USB out as configured requires it to be run into a PC with attendant software.

Because it's DSD? Another indication that DSD is inherently flawed. The optical out from my Blu Ray player and the USB out from my laptop work just fine plugged into my Topping E30 DAC. Can you just use the line out from the turntable? Remember that the real sonic limitation of LP playback will be the LPs themselves.

No, the 2 ends of USB are different, one end needs to be usb host, that's a computer normally, even though it looks like the TT would be in control as it's creating the data, it's the other end is pulling the data.

Yes, that is my understanding. But does the SMSL device function like a computer and pull the data -- or not-- that is my question? I am thinking not.

You will need a computer because the TT has driver software for it to work. Do you want to record the TT signal or do you always just play LPs to listen to them? If you just want to listen to the LPs, the line outputs can go to your receiver, AVR or whatever you are using for that. Assuming you have an unused input.

So the next question is what do you use for an amp or receiver?

I see it can be used to digitise your LPs... I see nowhere mentioned that you can "stream" its output directly to a DAC...
Since you own it, you could just try, provided you have a DAC with USB in (well, almost all of them do).
Anyway, if that does not work, it won't also using a USB->SPDIF/COAX converter...

Currently have older Emotiva Stealth DAC that uniquely has analog input, so my TT is fine going into the RCA analog in. I will soon upgrade to a new DAC or Streamer, very, very few of which have an analog input. Wiim of course does. And is very affordable.

I currently have an Asus Tinker Board with Volumio on it that serves as my streaming device and pulls digital tunes from my NAS. I of course can hook TT up to my PC and digitize all my albums, but that is kind of a time consuming pain in the ass.

If I go Wiim Ultra I am fine. I could also get a MiniDSP flex and run TB/Volumio USB and TT analog into it, or if I just upgrade my DAC I can also get a WaxWing and run it into the DAC. I am not a vinyl freak and do not consider vinyl superior to digital, so digitizing vinyl is not a big issue to me.

USB connection always requires two distinct interfaces - USB host and USB device. The device always only answers to host requests, it sends no data without the host sending a request first. The request can either contain audio data packet (for host -> device data playback), or ask the device to send its data packet (for device -> host capture).

Connecting one device to another device is not supported by USB.

The USB host can be a tiny computer board (e.g. ARM) running linux. Either one USB port + external USB hub, or two USB ports (with the hub located internally on the board). For software e.g. camilladsp just as a bridge. The bridge is actually quite complex as it has to adaptively resample the incoming stream clocked by your TT ADC independent clock to align to your DAC independent clock. Of course some non-negligible latency is added, but that's no issue for a TT.
