If DAC's like Topping D10 measure so well, what do the better DACs offer?

You can listen here, they should be the same....d90 is more airy though , vocals have more air around them....maybe its gain staging difference, because they should sound the same...

Not everything that counts can be measured!

No, and there are lots of things that matter...

Fortunately, everything that is heard can be measured, so in terms of noise, distortion, frequency response, etc, We can measure those things to a level far beyond our ability to hear by orders of magnitude.

Price and sound quality are unrelated, as this site repeatedly demonstrates. If something is 'tuned' for a sound, I can measure that distortion profile and recreate it for free on software if I'd like.

BD WOODY.

yes it is a question of «what matters».

in theory, good modern speakers (and some considered world class) should not show effect a .01% distortion signal and more often the not, .1% 2nd and 3rd order distortion!

We weren't talking about Speakers...

We were talking about solid state devices.

But that does bring up beautifully the point that speakers are generally where the money should go for easy sound quality improvements. That and room treatment/correction.
