I bought ID14 MK2, twenty days ago and on board there is CS43198 DAC. Have you see inside your device? What is the serial number?
Yes, my second ID4 mk2 looked similar to the top photo of post number #119, my first had the 98, I compared my Old and new side by side, very different even the layout. I will make/post a photo when I have the time and energy

as you can see, among other things, chip U1 was changed from 43198 to the inferior 43199

Do you mind sharing your serial number (on the bottom) to help identify your version when shopping
of course:

It seems that the bad update is reserved for the Audient ID4-MK2, while for the ID14 model only the AKM chip was replaced with the ESS

Which is the latest firmware version for your unit and what is the application version? My latest firmware is v1.09 and application version is v4.3.4. Not sure if the AKM and Sabre revision can use the same firmware.

1 - why on the old version, we can clearly read text on DAC and ADC chip in the same picture, while on the new version, the ADC and everything around are readable but the DAC is only a gradient from black to grey?

2 - how do you know that it's a lower specs chip?
1- I am not responsible for that/ it came like that
2- I measured the two but you can also search for data sheet and read the difference.

Thanks,
1 - strange it was masked like that
2 - I've did it, but didn't find the specs of the new DAC chip: the number on the DAC chip is 43199, but Cirrus Logic doesn't have a data sheet for this one.

They have
- 43198 with 130 dBA dynamic range/ THD+N of -115 dB
- 4399 with 130 dBA dynamic range, a THD+N rating of -108 dB
but no 43199

so there's still a possibility that this 43199 is the same than the 43198 but that Cirrus Logic call the 40-Pin QFN format "43198" and the 42-Ball WLCSP format "43199"

Now, if you have measure it and found a big difference, I would say it should more come from this DAC part than from the change of ADC

I wrote audient an email about this a while ago and they said “We're unfortunately to disclose this due to an agreement with the supplier.” That probably explains the tint, I strongly suspect it’s the same chip as the 4399. But it doesn’t matter what it is, I measured, and it’s inferior.

Did you measure both DAC and ADC separately to see if it's mainly the DAC part, or if both are giving lower results?
ES9822QPRO should not perform lower than the AK5574 on the ADC side

I did not measure its ADC at all, I bought it primarily for its DAC.

Hello boys, I'm new here. Just bought used Audient ID4 MK1 last week, and I didn't pay attention that it was MK1 and not MK2 version. Do you think MK2 is noticably better than the old MK1?

Actually iD4 mkii (maybe iD14 as well) has been using ES9822PRO already since the latter half of 2021 because of the fire in AKM.
Here is the inside of a newer iD4. The time marker 2142 means it‘’s been made at week 42 in 2021.
But nobody checked the performance of iD4 or iD14 with ES9822PRO.

index.php
Any idea if SSL 2/SSL 2+ also changed their chips after the fire at AKM?

Are you sure that CS43199 was used, I don't find any picture or message about that on the web except your post?
Regarding ES9822PRO, not sure it's worse than the previous AKM, would need to measure it
Did someone measured the ESS9822QPRO versions of iD4/iD14 mk2 in regards to its ADC performance?

Hello. I can confirm that the current ID14 MK2 mount Cirrus Logic CS43198 for DAC and ESS9822QPRO for ADC.

What we need to know are the differences between the AKM chip and the ESS one.

Not measured, but based on the fact that I have a Cosmos ADC that uses ES9822QPRO and that it has the same dynamic range than the AK5574, and a better THD+N (by 5dB), I don't see how the new id14MKII could have a lower AD performance, unless they made bad implementation

Well here's mine with AKM, Cirrus Logic and XMOS chip naturally. Bought the interface 09.08.2021 and really love the sound. Some times I connect it with my SMSL SP200 when need some more slap!
