Hey all. I've had my portable music player for some time and seem to never quite finish tinkering with it. On this 4th configuration of it I've been looking at ICEPower amp boards. The player has two 8" subs good for 400 watts rms a piece and then it has two 6.5" woofers and two super tweeters. It plugs into a regular 110 volt outlet. I want to run 2 of these amps, one for the woofers/tweets and one for the subs to make a 2.1 setup. Where I'm getting off track is it seems some of these amps you can run together and some not? There is no preamp as it is controlled by an Android car stereo. I'm using a 12volt switching power converter to power that and the VU meters. Can anyone suggest a pair of amps that will push the current speakers. The player is used mainly for outdoor get togethers so I need for it to be loud and while i dont consider myself to be an audiophile (my girlfriend disagrees) I do like my music to sound as excellent as possible within the confines of a given budget. My budget here being $300. Ish... Thanks for your time

Hi @bikerjay! Welcome to ASR.

This honestly sounds like a perfect use case for Wondom JAB Amp boards:

(search for "dsp")

There are dozens of versions with varying output power, minimum load impedance, power supply voltage, etc and you can daisychain them to get the exact setup that you need.

Best of all, each board has its own ADAU1701 for DSP, so you can do away with analog crossover components and get the most out of your drivers with steep crossover filters, phase correction and the like.

You'll need an active* crossover to separate the frequency bands (or you can program a DSP module as a crossover).

You can use multiple amplifiers as long as you don't try to connect multiple amps to one speaker. It's OK to connect multiple amp inputs together (but not outputs). But in your case you don't want to send the same signal to all amps so you need a crossover.

* Active crossovers work at line-level go in-front of the amplifier in a 2.1 system where the different drivers have separate amplifiers. Regular hi-fi speakers have passive speaker-level crossovers built=in.

I had planned on building passive xo's. i have a dayton audio kabd 4100 board in

thanks for the reply. It actually has a dayton audio kabd 4100 in it now (jab5). Its not enough to push the subs

it now. its not enouh to push the subs i feel like and actually have a dsp setup on my home stereo

Wondom sell versions with 2000W into 1-2Ω loads :D

Those ought to torture your subs well enough.

it has a dayton audio kabd 4100 in it now. (jab5) great amp boards. however they lack the power to push the subs. i aslo have a jab3+ in another build. i'll probably build passive xo's for it this time.. I was thinking more along the lines of the ice 1200 board for the subs. that will futureproof that area for the next time.

i saw them but are they equal to the ice boards quality wise. i was under the impression thew ice boards were a "cut above" wondom, tinysine, etc.

As a Sub Amp, the presence of DSP greatly outweighs low noise and distortion.
