Better mastering equipment in the factory that makes the transfer from master to pressing the record, availability of better microphones, Rudy van Gelder upgraded from ribbon to condenser microphones, less distortion and better S/N ratio in mixing consoles, extended frequency range.
Recordings from the fifties also sound better with more recent replay equipment.
