I decided a few months ago to get hearing aids to better hear my wife's soft voice and to hear more of the music (higher frequencies) that I played. Apple AirPods Pro 2 devices + an iPad seemed like a cheap place ($400) to start. It has turned out to be a great way for me to enjoy music.

The audio path in my main system was already pretty simple:

jRiver s/w on a Mac laptop -> SDAC Balanced -> XLR cables -> Dynaudio monitors.

Now the audio path got even simpler:

jRiver s/w on a Mac laptop -> AirPods Pro 2.

Then I started listening to music on the Apple Classical Music app with this audio path:

iPad -> AirPods Pro 2.

I've long enjoyed near-field listening and this is the best yet for me.

I am amused by the idea that the DAC is in my ear(s) and that room correction has been replaced by corrections to my hearing.

The AirPods Pro 2 are impressive -almost unrealistically so. They had no reason to be this good, yet here we are.

Buying the AirPods Pro was one of the most unexpectedly satisfying purchases I've made in the Hi-Fi world.
