Hello everyone,
I am looking to replace the servo driven subwoofers on my system. Why? Because the subwoofers are no longer serviced as well as the servo amplifier. My Genesis 2 system was built in 1991. Parts replacement has dried up. I cannot find replacement voice coils or the specs for the winding. The new Genesis, run by Gary Koh, will sell an upgraded driver, servo amplifier, or cables. The drivers are not a drop in replacement, and I would have to CNC the opening. This overall refurbishment from Genesis is cost prohibitive.
I am looking for some help to determine if my present direction is the best approach. Here is where this is at:
Present woofer cabinets have 4 x 12" servo driven drivers per side (left and right tower). 8 drivers total.
Each tower is 72" tall. Each segregated compartment is 1.65 CuFt. Each segregated compartment is sealed.
The subs are sealed.
Each cabinet weights 330 lbs..
Rythmik has a Custom Installation series of subwoofers that I am looking at. I would replace the 8 drivers with the SW-12-04. The plate amps would be the HX800XLR x 4. I would be using the existing woofer tower cabinets. My desire is to keep the system looking the same as from the factory. The servo amplifiers have the exact controls as the original amplifier. It just does not look as polished as the original servo amplifier.
Will there be issues that you guys can see in this approach? Is there another path that I have missed? Will there be any issues with blending the towers with the Mid/High panels? Is the cabinet voluum sufficient for each driver?
I will use REW and Audiolense for the measurements and filter design once completed.
Thanks,
Mark
