Contrary to what you believe the ESS 9068as chip does accept native dsd as shown in my post

That is not the same! Basically all ESS chips accept DSD natively. None however process it without conversions, like some AKM chips do. Some DSD purists claim this has some kind of audible advantage… in reality though, there is no solid evidence either way.

Noted. I do have another DAC that has IIS input, an AKM ie the Topping D70 (using dual 4497eq chipset). Perhaps will try that instead with the Sony. I also have the Oppo (103d) but will not get this player out of home theater projector setup to try with the hdmi/iis converter. Will post the results here if I set them up.
