I guess the Dutch take football seriously...

It all depends ... as always.
I lived some years in Wuppertal, where it is common that everyone in the neighbourhood, supermarket and elsewhere begins a conversation by telling it's life story to begin with. That behaviour is all around in the Rheinland. Sitting in a Pub or Restaurant with some spare places at the table you often are asked by people if they can join, even if there are spare tables around.
Was in the beginning a bit strange to me (as I'm Niedersachse), but became soon used to it and appreciate it even today.
Worst experience, the absolute opposite to this, was in Wolfsburg, and that is a completely different story.
So ... it depends.

I am not a football fan but as a Brazilian I read this and smiled in an arrogant "that's cute" way. :)

Football here is considered a religion, bordering on collective madness! And I am old enough to have lived their best years. Nowadays there is still much hype but way lower talent and results...
You Brazilians are the last ones who should call our Dutch friends and neighbours cute...

I look at barbecue the way I look at fried chicken, a favorite test, it's very good everywhere if one asks about the best places. My job has taken me to a lot places on five continents and found Australians the most likable, warm, humorous with a slightly rambunctious nature. That might have something to do with my blue collar upbringing here in the US West with a little less formality. Frankly, except when in Venezuela under Chavez there was a lot tension, I felt everywhere I went people were welcoming.

Back in the day, travelling a lot (had an average of 5.5 hours a day in air one month I checked), my experience is quite the opposite.

I always liked places like New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, the Caribbean, Southern US and Mexico. If I could, I would go ut alone, and the locals were always utmost friendly and inclusive. Go as a crowd, and the only people you'll remember (and will remember you) are those you knew already. Have had lots of great days, evenings (and sometimes nights) that way. People are sharing their stories, some of which are more than you need to know, but then again you'll be gone next day or in a few days. Risk free.

Been around a lot.
If anyone wants to test its ability to make friends try Japanese or the far south part of Argentina, Patagonia.

The rest of the world is kindergarten in comparison :p

Seriously now, differences amongst attitude is about country sides or very small cultures, big cities are all the same everywhere, depending in which part of the city you roam.

Guys I just created a world cup 2026 thread, feel free to join!
