Maybe, but this was real genius, beginning to end no clinkers. Never got past this album, tried but could not.

Quite. But we’ve had the boomer generation ramming their youth culture down the throats of younger generations for decades now, and it’s grating.

The Pet Shop Boys probably have the same relevance to me as a Gen X’er that the Beatles do to the Boomer’s; but I have the self awareness not to ram it down the throats of Millennials/Gen Z listening to Charli XCX, for example.

I grew up with The Beatles mainly there Red/Blue comp albums. During my era (2000s), it seemed like the "1" comp album was everywhere, it had a good track list. For a little while, I was a small Beatles" fan and listened to there actual albums. Eventually I moved away and listen to them, time to time. God, the amount of times I listened to "Nowhere Man".

Every generation thinks that the music from their formative years is 'the best'.

I grew up with 2000s pop music but I personally don't think its the best. However, I think its better then today's music. During the 1990s when my father when in his 20s, there was plenty of new music for him to latch onto. Told me there was music that was catchy but trash and music that stuck with him. For me, I'm in my 20s and everything new right now just sounds like trash.

Some bands are timeless
Nirvana 30 years after Kurt's death are as popular as always with the younger generation
There aren't many new rock bands that are very good in the last few decades, if any at all

Not so well known and not raking in the cash like the old well-known bands is the way I think about it. Overpriced shows for most of the old bands, too.

Well they are on the poppy side. I don't think bands will dominate like back when but doesn't mean they aren't good. I like some current ones better than Pearl Jam, that's for sure.

I've a friend who's the same. Seems to me he doesn't like the Beatles more because they are overrated than for any other reasons.

I like some of their songs a lot but agree that they are way overrated. A lot of things are.

Now imagine that this is happening in 1932.
Now imagine it's happening right now.
There are degrees of immortality, though in time everything will wear out.
But some things are more durable than others.

It's not that I'm stuck
It's just that music is pretty much dead for the last 20 years except a few good artists and bands
If music was so good today believe me no one would bother with the old songs and bands.
I try to like all the new stuff but can't really do it
