Hello!

I am from france so i will talk in euro.

I am very new to the audiophile field (currently rocking a pair of logitech z333) and i want to upgrade (400€ max budget).
I know that i want good warm sound for casual listening in my bedroom, and the possibility to get very loud and bassy when i invite people for a party at home.
I spent a lot of time searching internet , so i found what suits me, but it can only take you so far without experience and without irl testing.

For the amp i will buy the fosi bt20a pro with 48v/5a for 128€

But for the speakers i don't know if i should buy the polk xt20 for 180€, or the xt15 and the edifier t5 for a total of 245€ (145€+99€).

Some people say the xt20 have a lot of bass, but can they really compare to an 8 inch subwoofer?
And if i cranck the volume to 11 at a party, will the 70 watts sub be allow to follow the 110 watts rms that each speakers will receive??

Thanks for any response.

The long and short answer is that high fidelity equipment isn't optimised for power until you sink a significant amount of money in it. Generally high fidelity equipment isn't made to output high SPL in a large room for a long time.

From a engineering standpoint, there's Hoffmann's Iron Law, deep bass, small enclosure, efficiency, choose two. An alternative take on it, is that nothing beats a larger enclosure when it comes to producing bass if you're limited in amplification budget. And arguably, even when you're not limited there.

If you can stretch you budget a little, I would go for the Kali LP-8 V2 at 500€/pair. If you can't the Kali LP-6 V2 have nearly as much output but are even a little better for stereo listening.

Welcome to ASR !

The combination of Edifier T5 and the Polk XT15 will likely go lower than the Polk XT20 alone.

The 70 watts of the subwoofer should work for a medium to smaller-sized listening space.

If your about to have parties scrap all you think about gear like that, they would be likely toast long before the party ends.
It's far better to spend way less renting some PA for a day and be done with it.

I won't push to the max my amp, because as long as i just get 100/105 db spl at around 5 meters i am happy. Will it really damage my speakers if I keep that level for 4 to 5 hours?

Additionaly, the bt20 pro has a max 110 watts rms power at 8 ohms with 130 watts peaks, and according to crutchfield the xt15 handle up to 150 and the xt20 up to 200.

105dB (C) SPL at 5 meters, you're at the mains monitors territory, far, far above even from medium-big-ish tower speakers.
I suspect some trolling?

First, thanks for making me discover these speakers, i didn't know this brand until now.

If i go for kali lp 2 gen, it will be the 6 and not the 8, 100 cheaper and smaller.
According to their website, they can go to 115 spl wich is plenty for me, but will the bass be enough compare to a T5 sub?

Oh, and i know fidelity isn't an option when pushing cheap speakers to the max, but i honesty don't care. I will just throw techno and party with 5 to 10 friends, and as long as it is better than z333 i will be happy.

ok maybe i threw numbers without thinking, 100db should be enough. But i need to add, I really don't care about fidelity and distortion at those volume, i just want loudness and bass. The alcool will fill the gaps.

I did new yearswith my z333 at max volume (aprox 90/92 db at 50cm if i remember) in the living room and it was "okey"

90dB at 50cm is worlds away from 105dB at 5 meters.
For that money, only renting PA will do it with some bass etc.

That's the ugly truth.

yeah, i know how the decibel scale work, and obviously renting will be beter, but i don't like it, and i also have neighbours. I am not in an appartment, but i think that 105 db is the max before they start hearings things. Maybe even 100db.

But the original question was how much more bass am i gonna get with xt15 + t5 versus xt20

That mentioned 115 dB is a highly massaged number, something like a signal with no bass for 0.02 s. That said, yes, it's probably more bass than the T5.

You loose 6 dB per doubling of distance, and considering you mentioned not living in an apartment, I assume you mean a garden party, in this case you don't even get room reinforcement.

IF entertaining is your priority, I highly suggest calling univers-sons.com or a similar company, and asking them for "sonorisation" products in your price range.

Hold that thought. Pick up the Kalis now, and if you need more power, go to leboncoin and look for "enceintes de sono". :p

well, i live in a house and there is around 15 meters between my house and the house of the closest neighbour. I will do party inside my house, if i put my sound system in the garden during summer, i will be 80db max or around that.

Many of you seems to say how much renting gear will be better, and will consider it for big ocasion.

I am surprise to hear that the kali will push more bass than the T5, unfortunately i want bluetooth connexion, and the kali don't have bluetooth. Furthermore, going with an amp and passive speakers will be better for future upgrade.

Thanks a lot for your responses

Taking party or club level bass and SPL as a reference, the bass provided by these speakers will be close to non. On top of that, room modes (standing waves) in a typical domestic room will create a huge dip in the sub bass range in the middle of the room. So if you want bass, put an Edifier t5 in each corner of the room and put your friends in these corners. Put the fridge with the beer in the middle.

If you want small affordable speakers that can be abused for hours, look at the JBL Control 1 Pro.
