Hard to say.

But last time I played some music in a field I noticed how much better it sounded when cows and horses joined me. Night and day difference.

My wife, however, is opposed to me getting a cow for the listening room…

Well I just got banned from the Naim forums. I started arguing with some guy about ethernet switches.
He used the audiophile trope of my system not being resolving enough for me to hear differences... My next replies got me banned.

I just had a look on the Naim forum and one chap is talking about how swapping the tweeters on his Naim speakers has robbed them of bass - enough said I think

Living in Canada, as I do, the place to sell used audio gear is Canuck audio mart.
I have noticed anecdotally, that there seems to be a lot more "fancy" cables for sale. I know that the cables I sold recently, took a longer time to sell and sold for less than they would have a few years ago.
Maybe the work Amir, Gene and others are doing, is finally educating people.

Or the economy? It's one way to make a bit of pocket money.

But beyond the social there's identity, which of course has meaning only in a social context, but ones self-concept may be very solid and hard to change even if you haven't socialized it much.

Of course, there are way more serious and frightening examples of these kinds of psycho and social dynamics than audio cables and football so maybe it's ok if we use up our energies arguing these matters.

Yes indeed, it's one of the more harmless tribalisms. There's much, much worse ones, operating on the same base human instincts.

They make an audible difference! But once I find their mute switch so they don’t keep shouting ‘Exterminate!’ every 5 seconds, I’ll be able to evaluate their effect better

After all, if crystals and wooden volume control dials work, why shouldn’t these?

It has often been happening that people play instruments on a field and the cows or horses come and listen. That heavily suggests they can very well distinguish sound and noise, similar to how we do.

That’s their whole point! They lock onto a sub-par sound wave and ride up it to the ideal place to eliminate it.

There’s no other plausible explanation for how it got there…

I can't believe I went down the rabbit hole so far. Glad to be back in the sane world.
I have met a few audiophiles recently, as I have been selling off gear. The hobby seems to attract people with certain mental illnesses. I don't mean to be insensitive or put down others, but a good number of audiophiles seem to have something going on...

Gear addiction.
Men are quite susceptable to it.
