Hi guys,
My AV40 is stuck during a firmware update and won’t complete the upgrade to v1.60. I’m hoping to hear from anyone who has fixed this at home.
Here’s exactly what happens:
USB update fails at: “OSD Update: Err: No Flash – Press OK to reset.”
Network update hangs at: “DAB Update Erase…”
Tried multiple properly-formatted USB drives (including known-working Sandisk 8GB)
The same USB stick successfully updated my AVR10, so the files and drive are definitely good.
Current versions:
NET: 0.100.2057
HOST: 1.54/09
Harman support says this is a “hardware failure” and must be serviced, but before I ship the unit out, I’d like to hear from people in the community who have dealt with the same issue.
If you’ve experienced the “No Flash” or “DAB Erase” errors on an AV40/AVR30/AVR20 and managed to recover it at home, I’d really appreciate your insight.
Any tips, special steps, or things you learned would be a huge help.
I’m completely open to private messages as well.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Did you format the USB stick as FAT 32?
Have you tried to update using a computer, or over the internet rather than USB?

Yes, the USB was properly formatted in FAT32 (MBR).
I’ve also tested multiple drives, including:

  • SanDisk Cruzer Blade 8GB
  • Lexar 8GB
  • PNY 32GB
  • Dane 16GB

All freshly formatted FAT32.

The same USB stick successfully updated my AVR10, so the drive and the files are verified good.

I also attempted the network update and the browser-based update, but the AV40 still gets stuck at:

  • “OSD Update: Err: No Flash” during USB update
  • “DAB Update Erase…” during network update

So it looks like the issue is not the USB stick or the method, the AV40 simply can’t erase/write one of its internal flash partitions.

If anyone has managed to recover an AV40/AVR30/AVR20 from a “No Flash” or “DAB Erase” error, I’d really appreciate any guidance.
