Humming from xlr cable, pin 1 connected to shell

I bought an xlr cable that was wired this way and I seem to be getting ground loop hum noise when connected to a subwoofer. Should I unsolder the wiring to shell and just leave it connected to pin 1? Would this be a potential fix? I have another cable that doesn’t produce this hum, and it’s not wired like this.

informative vid. that explains why my setups behave differently. i guess this is on a case by case basis and for my situation there's no use having the shell connected

Looking at the quality of that solderng I would also suspect a short from the shield to one of the signal cables - which would turn it into unbalanced. Check that out if you have a multimeter.

Then never buy a cable from that supplier again

Yeah, shoddy workmanship. But it costs $1.50 for a 1.5m so you get what you paid for I guess.
