Hello all

New member looking for help with getting HT bypass set up. Here is my gear:

NAD C399
Marantz NR1711
Sony UBP-X800
Denon 2910 Universal Player
Pioneer Kuro 5020

I know I need to run RCA from from Marantz to NAD's Line 1 or 2 and then do some set up in the NAD menu. For two channel music I use both the Denon and the Sony and also stream using a Samsung tablet. I'm thinking connect the Denon to the NAD directly, and the Sony to the Marantz using HDMI?

Spectrum cable box will be connected directly to Pioneer and also to the Marantz using either HDMI or optical cable.

Front mains will be connected to the NAD, rest will be connected to the Marantz. Does my sub get connected to the NAD or Marantz?

Hopefully I'm on the right track but looking for suggestions if there are better ways to do this.

Thanks everyone!

Welcome to ASR. The solution is very simple, you don't need the NAD. Connect everything to the Marantz, sell the NAD, use the money for beer!
HA! I don't drink much beer these days but I could get some nice bourbon!

Normally I'd agree, but those slim Marantz AVRs have pretty poor performance:

Thanks. Any suggestions to my post on how to connect it all?

Everything you said sounds fine, except connect the Denon and sub to the Marantz. The NAD should be doing nothing except acting as an amplifier for the front mains. Anything else is going to introduce a lot of complexity for no real benefit, IMO. By the time the signal has gone out the Marantz's pre-outs, it's already been through the DAC. Unless you go analog to the Marantz from the source, I suppose, but then you'd have to disable DSP via the "pure mode" to avoid it getting digitized anyway, and then you have no bass management so your sub will be doing nothing. The real issue with the Marantz is after it all gets through the amplifiers, so just avoiding that for your front mains is all you should really be concerned about.

Not generally a fan of duplicating gear and the ht bypass nonsense, but what are the speakers involved?

Thank you very much! I thought I had read the source for 2 channel audio should go directly to the NAD but maybe I read that wrong?

It's a cheapo JBL SUB150. I didn't buy it, was left in the house when I bought it.

That was part of my initial question. Do I connect it to the Nad or the Marantz?

All that matters when you connect your sub is that it receives that the same volume control as your mains. So you can connect it to your NAD or your Marantz - as long as the subs go loud when you turn up the volume, and go soft when you turn down the volume, it's all good.
